A Maybach E, OMG I hope not. Beyond the GLS and S I don't see what else they do with the existing Mercedes models, they're going to have to go bespoke at some point like AMG has with the GT models. Unless they want to remain a two model brand, S and GLS.

As the Chinese market have a LWB E-class, maybe they will introduce a Maybach E-class for the Chinese market only

That would not be surprising.

Do you think this is a good long-term strategy for the brand? There is definitely a market for these vehicles, demand in the luxury segment continues to grow every year.
It could be argued that we have already passed the point of absurdity with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, so I expect things to continue on that trajectory for quite some time (at least until this crazy debt-fueled Global economy starts to go seriously bad).

The other day I was driving behind a G wagon and was thinking Maybe Mercedes should do a Maybach version imagine the G which is a legendry car with a Maybach style interior the sheiks and Chinese would have them for sure..

@SDNR I doubt they will change the strategy at the moment if you see howmany S class versiin Maybach they sold you can see they are milking the profits...

You're right @fotuner, sales will always be the main determinant in any boardroom. I'm sure MB are very happy with Maybach's progress right now.

^ Maybe. :)

The Peculiar Mercedes SUV-Sedan Is Actually Happening: Report
It would be a four-door sedan with the ride height of an SUV.

Remember the weird Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury Concept that mixed a crossover-like ride height with the body of a four-door sedan from the Auto China 2018 in Beijing, China? A new report from Germany's Handelsblatt indicates that a vehicle similar to this is coming from the German brand.

Internally, Mercedes allegedly calls this vehicle an SUL, which presumably stands for sport utility limousine (think of this in the German sense of a sedan, rather than a stretched vehicle like in American parlance. Unfortunately, there aren't many additional details about this high-riding four-door, including when it might arrive.

The major question about this SUL is where it would fit in the Mercedes lineup. The company's coupe-inspired crossovers would seem to appeal to the same people buying this vehicle. Also, the automaker is trying to simplify the range in some regions.

The Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury Concept had the shape of a big sedan but the ride height you'd expect from a crossover. The design featured a big grille with lots of vertical, chrome strakes, and there were narrow headlights in each corner. Brawny fenders included extra cladding for a more rugged appearance. There was a vertically split moonroof, and this continued to a matching separation in the rear glass.

After the concept's debut, there was a rumor that Mercedes was discussing whether to put it into production, but there wasn't yet a green light for doing so at the time.

The idea of a high-riding sedan isn't entirely new. For example, Volvo did it with the S60 Cross Country. The vehicle took the four-door and lifted the ride height by 2.5 inches (65 millimeters). While not enough to make the vehicle a hardcore off-roader, the extra ride height helped deal with less-than-ideal roads.

Seeing the lineup of the EQs in the shadows reminds me so much of the Acura MDX...

Yes, he is the chief design officer of MB China now, working in the Beijing studio. :)

Yes, it's an EV. :)

Hey nice to see tou post havent seen u post in a long time ?

Are they considering making this and in the one thread Scott said Mercedes were thinking of a AMG only version SUV any truth ?

The lessons learned from this chip shortage should include more high end vehicles and less A-Classes. It’s time for the to push the button on pure AMG and Maybach models but they can’t do it on the cheap. Think how Porsche does things. People will buy anything AMG right now. This Maybach concept should have already been approved for production along with a regular back version. Not that lame Maybach SUV concept they just showed recently.

Jogging the imagination,,,

The body of this concept could conceivably be a precursor for future EQS/EQE succeeding (or perhaps "complementing"), low ride height 4 door BEVs'. Especially should the "One Bow" theme not be received favourably (which is now looking increasingly unlikely as the EQS is being impressively promoted and seems to be finding more and more acceptance).

Mercedes is checking SUV sedans for China based on EQE

There are considerations to develop a SUV sedan in the style of the Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury on an EQE basis
Mercedes is considering producing a new body shape for the Chinese market only for the year 2024.
It should be a mixture of the most popular body styles in China (sedan and SUV).
Mercedes had already shown such a SUL as Vision Maybach Ultimate Luxury at the Beijing Auto Show in 2018.

So far, the expectations were that this new body shape would replace an A-Class sedan and that the SUL would be based on the new MMA platform of the Mercedes compact cars.

According to more recent findings, however, Mercedes is considering building this sedan SUV on the basis of the just introduced EVA2 platform based on the Mercedes EQE. This car will then be built and sold exclusively in China.

It is also conceivable that Mercedes will present two vehicles of this new type of SUL. The A-Class SUL could be offered on an MMA platform for the entire world and the EQE SUL on an EVA 2 basis then exclusively for the Chinese market. A board decision is to be made shortly.

A Maybach version based on the EVA2 platform has already been announced as an SUV form for 2023 and is based on the EQS SUV. The concept car for this was presented at the IAA 2021 in Munich at the beginning of September and is being produced at the Mercedes US plant in Tuscaloosa.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
