Audi of America, Inc. Reports Record Sales for January

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America today
reported strong January sales results. Sales totaled 6,399 vehicles, a 5.2%
increase over the previous year, and the best January in the company's
history. January marked the 10th month of the past 12 when Audi sold more
vehicles than the previous year.
Johan de Nysschen, Executive Vice President of Audi of America, Inc.
stated, "Audi has a great deal of momentum as we enter 2007. We're coming
off record sales in 2006, residual values on our new vehicles are, on
average, the best in the luxury set, and the R8 sports car is generating a
great deal of interest in the brand.
"2007 can be another great year for Audi and our customers," he said.
"We have three significant launches, including the TT Coupe and Roadster,
the R8 mid-engine sports car, and the A5 coupe. We're certainly looking to
set another record this year."
The January sales figures were fueled by an 11.8% increase for the A4
model line, as well as continued strong results for the Audi Q7 (1,636
deliveries). Audi saw its biggest growth in the Pacific Northwest region
which posted a 60.7% increase over last year's numbers. New Jersey (44.9%),
the Desert region (43.3%), Los Angeles (41.2%), and Miami and Michigan
(37.5%) also saw big gains in January.

Mercedes-Benz USA Records Best January Sales Ever

MBUSA Sells 17,069 Units, an Increase of 37 Percent Over Last January

MONTVALE, N.J., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Coming off its thirteenth year
of consecutive sales increases, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported
sales of 17,069 new vehicles for January 2007, up 36.9 percent from last
January making this the best January sales in the company's history.
In 2006, Mercedes-Benz significantly enhanced its competitive presence
in the luxury light truck market with the launch of the full-sized luxury
SUV: the GL-Class, which sold 1,815 units in January. The popularity of the
M-Class model line continued to build with a 19.8 percent increase compared
to last January (2,351 vs. 1,962). As a group, sales for Mercedes-Benz
vehicles in the luxury light truck segment continue to gain momentum with
an 82.8 percent increase over January 2005.
Other highlights for MBUSA sales in January include a 24 percent
increase in its portfolio of passenger cars (12,058 vs. 9,728). Volume for
the month was led by the C-Class with 3,928 units sold, a 26.8 percent
increase over last January's 3,098 units. Sales for the E-Class family of
sedans and wagons, including those with the new clean diesel technology
called BlueTec, grew by 36.9 percent with 3,375 models sold.
As a group, model lines at the high-end of the Mercedes-Benz portfolio
-- S-, SL-, and CL-Classes -- rose 78.1 percent (2,705 vs. 1,519 units) in
January. Contributing to this was the popularity of the top-of-the-line CL
coupe which was introduced in December (up 279.4 percent) and the continued
demand for the ninth generation S-Class (up 125.1 percent).

Porsche Reports January Sales

ATLANTA--Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced January sales of 2,984 in the United States compared to last year's record-setting January of 3,232, representing a decline of 8 percent.

After taking the wraps off its new 2008 Cayenne--which goes on sale March 3rd--last month at the Detroit Auto Show, Porsche recorded strong sales of 1,404 for its current Cayenne, an increase of 37 percent over the previous January with sales of 1,028.

“In preparation for the market launch in March of the new-generation Cayenne, we are obviously pleased with the strong rundown of the current model,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. “ Clearly the excitement generated by the world debut of the new Cayenne last month helped boost showroom interest in the Cayenne overall.”

Porsche's sports car sales were again led by the 911, which enjoyed a record-setting January with sales of 922 cars sold versus last January when sales were 810. Boxster/Cayman sales totaled 658 for the month, compared to January 2006 with sales of 1,383, a result that benefited from the highly anticipated premiere of the Cayman series.

True, but LS460 have been in the market for months now. Also the press release says "The all-new LS 460 reported sales of 3,006, an increase of
142.5 percent."
So if there are maybe still some old Mk LS430 on the lot I believe there are very very rare. Mind that BMW also include Z8 sales in the sales chart. ;)

I don't think that the RX can be compared here, but I could be wrong. I think the X5 and ML competition lies with the GX model.

You are right. RX is smaller & much cheaper than other SUVs in comparison. Will change it with GX numbers. :usa7uh:

Well technically neither is the LS a direct competitor to the S class because it is far cheaper.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. The Porsche Carrera GT is much cheaper than an Maserati MC12, yet both are in the same class.

Whether the Lexus is cheaper than the Mercedes is irrelevant, especially as both are in the same class. Both are executive flag ship luxury cars.

Outstanding start to the year by MB. Hopefully this momentum is sustainable.

Waiting for the BMW figures. Will BMW manage to hold the lead? :eusa_thin

Like I said: Jan 2006 was terrible for MB - only 12,469 units sold. Very low sales figure for MB in years (second lowest - only Jan 2005 was even worse with 12,101 units sold).

So 17,069 units sold in Jan 2007 is just a normal achievement, not something outstanding.

In 2006 MB sold more than 20k units per month in every month, except in Jan, Feb & Sep.

Btw, BMW have sold more vehicles than MB in Jan 2007. ;)

Well guys it's not the money factor that matters what matters is size and features.

The RX in this case is not comparable to the X5, Q7 or the ML. The GX on the other hand has the same kind of spec sheet that the X5 and so on have. As for the case of LS, well it is definitely comparable to the S class or any other luxury car.

Just because it's cheaper than the rest doesn't mean it can't compete. Hell if someone were to buy a car just for the value per dollar statistic here in the US, it wouldn't make sense to buy anything other than the LS. LS basically offers everything that the germans do sans the driver enthusiasm...but that is of personal taste and not an actual feature of the car.

Well technically neither is the LS a direct competitor to the S class because it is far cheaper.

Being cheap is one of the competitive advantage the LS has over the other competiting German brands.
As a matter of speaking, I think that is the business strategy of Lexus;provide cheaper alternative to the German luxury car manufacturers. Their business model is based on cost differentiation as I am yet to find a Lexus model that cost more than their German rivals.
