It's a brand new platform, now on the (TN)GA-K modular platform that supports new NX, Camry, Corolla, etc. Longer wheelbase and wider body and all that. Not sure why they decided to keep the window lines almost the same, but yeah.

I'd consider the IS the "extensive LCI" cause most people already consider it a 4th gen despite just being a 3rd gen with rebodied exterior

Lol, oddly enough, when a car company is trying to invoke a sea creature, it's usually a shark. With that protuberance of a nose a narwhal came to my mind!

Got to drive one a few months back and got a ticket for tints .

Seems to drive better than the older generation. Interior is night and day, only that shifter is out place since it's electronic. The tech is annoying and intrusive. I'd turn off most if it were my car.
