E-Class (W124) Two Perfect W124 E500s

I don't how it is in the United States but in the Netherlands we have a handfull of companies which imports classic and future classic (youngtimers) Mercedes cars from Germany. Most of them with very low milage and in always in great conditions. Therefore the price is also quite high but then again the state these cars are in, almost as new.
Depending on the milage, the prices of a W124 E500 ranges from +/- €15.000 to +/- €30.000 .







There is one car, a Mercedes 500E Limited Edition, which is relatively cheap due to the high milage. It's for sale at one of the companies located in The Netherlands. It costs €13.500 with 268.000 km on the ticker but in great condition. Knowing that these cars were known for their reliability and quality back then and judging by the car's condition, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I had the money and the garage space.

Those cars are in awesome shape. We don't have as many in that kind of shape due to the relative rarity of the 500 model compared to the 300/400/320/420 models of the W124. At some point I'm going to buy an older Benz just to drive every once and a while, deciding between the W124 and the R129 is the biggest problem. We never got the Limited Edition version here in the U.S. either.

Those cars are in awesome shape. We don't have as many in that kind of shape due to the relative rarity of the 500 model compared to the 300/400/320/420 models of the W124. At some point I'm going to buy an older Benz just to drive every once and a while, deciding between the W124 and the R129 is the biggest problem. We never got the Limited Edition version here in the U.S. either.

So you're going to buy an older Benz, is it going to be your weekend/fun car?
If so I personally would choose for the R129 as I find it to be the better choice when it comes to:

- Weekends: Day out down town with girlfriend or wife.
- Special ocassions: Weddings, parties etc.
- Sunny days: Convertible, wind blowing your hair driving in country roads, beaches.

I'm not saying that the Mercedes E500 isn't good at fulfilling any these things stated above but I think the SL is the better choice when it comes to that. But if practicality is must, then the E500 is the one to go for. It's also a very special car.

But seeing you already have a very nice silver W208 CLK430 Cabriolet with AMG package in perfect original state. I wonder if it's not too much owning two convertibles in your garage. Unless of course if it has 4 more cilinders than the CLK430, the SL600.
Still you can't go wrong with either the SL500/600 or the E500, both are great!

Thanks for the thoughts, yes this car would be a weekend/occasional type vehicle. Yeah having 2 convertibles is something I thought would be overkill, but hey that is the only way the SL comes...lol. I'm really torn here so I think it might come down to which one I can find in the best shape. Truthfully the SL would be easier to find because of the greater numbers. Finding a W124 500 is much harder if you want it in reasonable condition and the resale on that thing is up there, the good ones cost. What I "need" is a new Jetta, but what I want is and older Benz to wax and hug and drive every now and then.

Post FL of course. However if I was to stumble upon a perfect "500E" I'd have to consider it. The facelift and name changes for 1994 were a complete surprise, but they make the "E500" the most desirable of them all IMO.

Never seen one of these before, a 1992 - Mercedes-Benz - RennTech 500E:



It even has a manual trans. I wouldn't go anywhere near such a car unless I just had money to burn, literally. Way too much custom stuff on this one.
