Okay, so it's not a movie trailer... but still... possibly the most important TV event of the last 20 years .. in my humble opinion...

@hoffmeister_fan

You liked my post, Twin Peaks returning. Episode 1 has aired.

Not sure if you, or anyone here, will have seen it yet... I am f****** speechless. This is already David Lynch at his rawest.. it's edgy, uncomfortable.. yet at the same time familiar... I just spent 2 hours on the edge of my seat, and it seems that 20+ years away has done nothing but distill my feelings for the characters. F****** stunning.

Dammit I really want to watch it. Unfortunately, I need a few things to happen before I can do that. 1) I need my schedule to massively clear up. Hopefully, after giving a bunch of important exams over the next couple months, that'll happen, 2) I need to re-watch S1, S2, and the movie because it's been nigh on 13-14 years since I've visited Twin Peaks, 3) then can I throw myself in David Lynch's demented rabbithole (ick, that sounds filthy) and go to town on this new season.

Side note: Blue Velvet is on of my favorite movies, and I usually don't particularly care about celebrity culture, but I actually got to meet Lynch. You'd think he'd be this gruff intimidating guy from his large and tall stature and the dark, surreal stuff he produces. Not at all. Just down-to-earth and a class act all the way.

But yeah, I've seen the promos, and I really really want to get lost in Twin Peaks.

If it helps, I don't think you need to re-watch any of the old stuff (though it'd be a good excuse to) - I kind of like the fact that 25 years has passed in both the story and in real life - seeing the events then and now back to back lessens the impact IMHO. I won't say anything further on it as I wouldn't want to give anything away.

I would love to meet Lynch - though I'd have no idea what I'd say! Twin Peaks really was incredible, I was twelve when it hit the TV here, but it's really stuck with me since - I guess I'd just thank him for that! Wild at Heart would be my favourite other work, though I must confess I've not seen anything newer than Lost Highway.

Hmm, good to know. I still want to do it chronologically because i know myself, I would think (or obsess) about if I had forgotten some detail from the past so I can make a connection to the present plot while watching the current season. I am not overly keen on binging, or at most 2 or 3 episodes in one sitting.

I became a fan of Lynch probably a year before meeting him because my good friend, who was and is a bigger Lynch fan than I am. Although I can't be sure as I was in awe of both Lynch and his surprisingly mild demeanor, I probably asked him something about how he conjures his ideas or something about Blue Velvet. I can guarantee my friend asked something about Eraserhead.

I've just watched the next episode... you might want to get into the Eraserhead vibe before you embark on S3.... this latest episode was... out there, literally.

As far as what carries over from then until now, I've found that what I've seen so far makes more sense of certain events in S2, than the other way around. After the new season finishes, I will go back and watch S1, 2 & 3 in order.. revisiting this series and these characters has genuinely had an emotional effect on me!

Thanks mystery mod for making this it's own topic... :D

Kyle rockin' an M4 convertible...

Although I have no flippen idea what's moving on 16 episodes down....I'm really enjoying it.

There's still a lot of things to tie up, though I'm not sure how cleanly, or obviously tied up it will be, Lynch isn't one for grand exposition.

If you're into it, but somewhat bemused - I'd recommend Gamespot Universe on YouTube, Link: Twin Peaks - Breakdowns and Recaps - YouTube these guys are pretty observant and do a good job of sifting through a lot of the crap theories, to present a bit of a clearer idea as to what it was you just watched! A lot of the reaction and review vids on YouTube are a total waste of time.

I am sad that after next, it'll be over :(

Over as in the end of the season or over as in it won't be returning? Hope it's the former.

Both, there's a two-parter next week (eps 17 & 18) apparently, then that's the end of the season. It was, as far as I know, a single season deal - I don't think S3 is going to end on a massive cliffhanger the way S2 did 25+ years ago - and S3 answers the question of what happened to Coop once he was possessed by Bob... once that story is told, it ends. :(

Must say I'm equally enjoying Ozark of not more.

I haven't seen that. Once TP finishes I'm cancelling my NowTV subscription and going back to not watching TV (save for maybe Top Gear)

Absolutely no idea what this series is about, nor have a watched a single second of it.

But I'm intrigued.

I would love to recommend it.. but, if you aren't at least somewhat familiar with the original series, and if you don't know what to expect from Lynch's film-making style then you are going to have a tough time with it.

It's a pretty weird $hit... But very intriguing & addictive one. Pretty amusing as well, at times. But it's a show for very acquired taste. It has a cult status (among fans).

I would have personnally liked a nod less lynchism, to be better in line with the spirit of old seasons who i would like to remind is co-created with Frost. Although, looking at the bigger picture, the ending of the second season was the perfect pretext for the third one to be much more dreamy and lynchy.

The difference between then and now is creative constriction.

S2 in particular had to be tailored to combat falling ratings, hence they represent Lynch and Frosts vision for the story, and how it should be told, less accurately - and they represent more of what the studio thought the public would tune in to each week.

One of the things I find incredible about S3 is that it didn't have such a restriction at all. It is the story that both Lynch and Frost want to tell ... and how they want to tell it.

To be fair, the balance can swing severely between Lynchian Eraserhead-esque weirdness to pretty normal story-telling from one episode to the next - they could have perhaps edited it to 'even it out' a bit. It does feel different, but a lot has changed in the world of TV over the last 25+ years, and I think they might have run the risk of it becoming a poor imitation of itself had they tried to mimic the old one too much. Just my two cents.
