Hot! Toyota GT Concept

put this V8 to that Lexus ev concept and add a hybrid system and you will have the winner. But this won’t happen.

Reality: this Toyota looks not as good as people expected. Probably will be overpriced.

Another bad news : that Lexus concept is fully electric.

So we have 2 bad news…. Ok, forget about it.

Looks like the rumours of it being detuned mid development are true. Original reports were targeting 750-950hp depending on variants.. we'll be lucky if the GRMN gets 750

Yes, probably. But it only weighs 1750kg, that's lighter than a BMW M2 coupe. I can imagine a lot of weight will have to be added to the drivetrain as it will have to be beefed up quite substantially if the engine output goes beyond 680hp.

Toyota doesn't base its decisions on market trends or analysts' estimates; it follows its own agenda. Who would have thought that today is a good time to launch not one, but two radical, high-performance coupes that will apparently be epic for a mostly mainstream brand? All that's left to do is congratulate them on their courage and decision.
It actually does base its decisions on market trends, I am afraid.

Toyota (and most others) are getting hammered around Asia by the Chinese. Like where I am from, the miniscule, and mostly second hand market was entirely dominated by Toyota, some Honda and Germans on the high end. The only reason they are still not dead is because of market inertia really. Otherwise, most Toyotas are like a bad joke compared to Chinese vehicles. I don't think even German cars compare all that well really.

So what I heard was that Toyota is trying to move a bit upmarket.

650+ PS, 850+ Nm
Over-square, dry sumped, high-revving turbo V8
Wet-clutch 8 speed transaxle automatic with integrated electric motor (that’s a first, I think)
Rear-wheel drive
1750kg
Platform for GT3 racecar
Wild looks
Huge potential driver appeal

What’s not to like? Perhaps the (expected) price but that’s not going to bother the target market.

I think it’s great that a company like Toyota still sees the importance of bringing a top-end sports car to market.

It looks to be a great car, but the Lexus being an EV is just terrible news. You go from a V10 LFA to a EV LFA? Pass. The presentation was terrible. There are better shots and videos of the car all over Youtube. I need to see the car out on the road live, but I do like it. Just not blown away yet.

The pictures from the press event look far better than the press shots released.

Also the LFA Concept is a huge joke against the actual LFA... you're telling me your EV concept branded the "Lexus Sport Concept" 4 months ago is a real LFA successor now that you're calling it an LFA? cmon

Yeah it's all sorta blah to me. Part of that is that we waited so long for this and it's partially disappointing IMO. The Toyota should have been more extreme and the Lexus should have been the GT car also with the V8, but with less power and a more luxury bias, like a uplevel replacement for the LC500. The LFA EV is going to flop hard asf.

The way they've approached the Lexus iteration really has me scratching my head.

Calling it an LFA seems like they are cashing a check they can't cash. It ought to be it's own thing. LFR was already trademarked.

More importantly, Toyota has had enough time to see how the market has reacted to an electric sports car, let alone one that's US$100K+. And no amount of synthetic noise or pre-set gear ratios or even solid-state batteries will change the target audience's mind. As it has been mentioned by others: lux GT for Lexus and balls to the wall hard-edged sports car for GR, that seems a more assured approach.

LFR was already trademarked.

I believe LFR (Lexus Future Racing) was the original intended name for the GR GT before Toyota decided to hand over the project to GR and have this be the GR brand's first standalone model.

In October 2024 it was reported that this would be renamed as a GR instead of Lexus by Japanese media.

I'm actually more excited about the new V8 and the other possible applications than I am about this car. The Century Sedan and SUV if and when they come to America, should absolutely have a version of this V8. It's too bad they didn't give the Lexus LS another update with this V8 and since the new LFA is an EV, why not bring back to the LC-F project with this V8.................the V8 it was supposed get years ago. If the Century Coupe Concept reaches production, it has to have this V8. A totally new Lexus IS500 would be killer with this V8. Come on Lexus get competitive again, do something beyond terrible EVs and 4-cylinder, FWD crossovers.

They say high revving V8, how high does it rev?

This car reminds me of the original AMG GT C190 ( specifications, not design)

"GR will join Toyota, Lexus, and soon-to-be Century as the company adds brands to its portfolio. No word on pricing, but none of the Toyota reps present scoffed at our suggesting a $350,000 to $400,000 price, which would land it in the world of the Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari 296, Ford Mustang GTD, McLaren 750S, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS."

If it's +300K, the competition is going to be really tough for Toyota! There are so many incredible cars in this price range.

Long hood v8 Corolla coupe this is, the Lexus with more powertrain options would be better then this, this one is welcome too, I can't unsee that Corolla, Viper like look from this.

It's an investment no one would dare make in today's market conditions. Toyota deserves congratulations. It's an exciting car.
