I have been posting for roughly a year now and I must say that this is one of the best online communities on the internet today. We all obviously share the same passion for cars, namely those from European countries. The diversity of opinions and more importantly, the understanding of opinion is what sets this forum apart. BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi fans have united to discuss, the past, the present and he future of the irrespective companies. As a BMW fan, I am happy to keep abreast of the future of the company. As a Mercedes Benz advocate, I am more than pleased to see the future direction they are taking and the comparison that can be made between the directions each company is headed towards.

But the site also offers a lot more then car talk. I was sceptical at first as to how I would be accepted. But the warmth and friendliness that is on offer within this community is outstanding and irrespective of my opinion, I never feel negative connotations towards my posts.
I have found myself using this forum as a means of cooling off after a hard day’s work. Often, I will come home, have dinner, and sit at the table on my laptop pretending to do work as my wife watches television when in actual fact I’m reading today’s posts and news on GermanCarForum. Even at work, when I have a break between operations, a meeting or even consultations, I quickly log onto GCF to see what’s happening.

As one of only a select few Australian members, I have tried my best to open up the world of the Australian automotive industry by posting important news and reviews on our locally made vehicles. We may be a small automotive country, but we also offer some world class vehicles such as the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore.

To finish I would like to say a thank you to all members at GCF. Each and every single one of us combines to make this such a great automotive community. It isn’t everywhere that you can discuss topics that interest you with people over 4000 kilometres away. The diversity and people, opinions and cultures are what make GCF such a special place. I hope to be around and posting for another enjoyable year...

:t-cheers:

I agree, this is the best placing going for discussion of European, specifically German cars. I didn't think I'd get over my previous forum home (Edmunds) so quickly.

Wonderful post my friend and fellow GCF addict. Thank you for your contributions in the past year in both car and non car related topics, and it is always good to have another active aussie member to talk about the local events.

I love this place and the open-minded members we have here. Most importantly the mutual respect that goes around her for individual members (no matter what brand they like or prefer) and different cars. :t-cheers:

Oh yeah, I am very busy these days so expect to see me online here less and less for some time. :(

Thanks mate. It has been a good year. Good to come as well. We need to decide upon the replacement for my 5 Series. Open playing field...

Very true. I've had a few half days and RDO the last couple of weeks so I've had more time then usual to post. Expect less of me for awhile as it is coming up to winter so the hospital will be at full capacity and I'll be running many extra shifts to help the clogged Emergency Rooms... And I need to get ontop of my waiting list. It just keeps growing...

You have fathered too many kids :D

BMW X6? M3? The Jaguar XF was launched this week, the top spec XF cost around $134k. How about something different, like the XR6 Turbo? What are the things you want for your next car ?

I have a select few criteria:

I want to be comfortable after a long days work. Comfortbale seat, good interior, and comfortable ride.

Style is important.

Good boot space for my golf clubs fand for luggage when I go oversea's etc

I need ample power. When I get paged at 3am with a level 3 critical patient, I need to be at the hospital extremely quickly. Where talking speed limits don't apply on the highway. I have been pulled over once only to have a police escort to the hospital. One of the many highlights of my career so far!!!

Automatic. After a 16-20 hr working day I am much to tired to change gears.

I really do prefer BMW. But am willing to look outside because I'm after the best car for me...

Sat Nav, and all the bells and whistles are good. I like a good sound system.

Exciting and sporty drive as well as comfortable. I don't think I will find anything better then the 5 Series at this.

Thats really all I look for...

It is going to be a tough choice....

Your post is very accurate Doc. Cause I feel excatly the same way and I can sense alot of other members do too..
That is also one of the reasons this forum is one of the best out there,
Glad you have you on the team as well you are truly a great member!

Great post, CC. Thanks! :usa7uh:

I'll just say that 5 out of 7 days i'm online almost 12 hours a day (with little breaks). 10 hours at work every day, plus later in the evening. Mostly Monday to Friday, 'cause over the weekend i'm spending my time with kids, playing football, visiting my friends, playing cards, etc, so that's why i'm not full week active.

That tells you what i think and feel about this site.;)

GCF FTW!!!:eusa_clap:usa7uh:

The BMW M3, that seems to meets all your criteria. The police story is amazing, it is good to see there are some very helpful and understanding police out there, and it does give you nice surprise when things like these happen.

I'd have to order that within a few weeks to get it in time. I think I'll forgo the M3 for now. My plan is to lease a car for a year, then make the big decision. New 7er, facelift M3 coupe, sedan, new E Class etc.

The police story is a good one. I was paged at 2.30ish a.m. 1 Minute later I was called by the department head of Emergency Medicine saying a 15 year old boy needed emergency surgery and all the neurosurgeons on call where in surgery. I live 25 minutes from the hospital. I needed to be there in 15 minutes.

I was carefully speeding. Only exceeding the limit on the highway which makes up most of the trip. Next thing I see lights and siren and I get pulled over. I quickly jump out of my car, showed the officer my QLD health card so he didn't think I was running or going to attack him. I then explained I am on my way to an emergency. He says ok, I'll escort you to the hospital. Made it just in time to help the young boy who had intercranial bleeding.

Problem was the 530i was much to good for the Toyota Aurion he was in and I found myself slowing down so I didn't crash into him in corners...

:D

XR 6 Turbo? If you are going to keep the car for only a year, the XR 6 Turbo should be pretty good.

Great story once again, and great job saving the kid's life.

I didn't know the Brisbane police use Aurions, I thought everyone use SS Commodores and XR8 or XR6 Falcons, having said that, my local police station has a PT Cruiser......

Well said, I think there are few places online that you'll find a community that gets on as well as we do!

Lets hope it continues for many years to come!

Good job on saving that boys life, I'd be forever great full if you saved my life:) When I first joined GCF I was the same about posting but when I found out people were really nice it was easier:D I've enjoyed GCF so far and i always log on to see the latest on car news (even at school Shh tho;))

I can't wait untill I get my own German car and share the experiance and pics with everyone on here:):usa7uh:

There are many people here I like, I miss them when I am away for times.

Although I have had some issues with this forum, there is not a single member I do not respect. There have been several times when I have seriously felt like quitting ...but I really feel like I have some good friends here -- and they (not so much the cars) are the reason I keep coming back.

Great post!! You are absolutely right - with every single word.
This is a great community and I have really come to appreciate this forum. I love to "speak" to people all over the world. And although, I don't know any of you in person, I have the feeling, that there are some good friends around. It's like SDNR already described.

For a brief second, I thought you were leaving :D. This place is e-perfect for e-relaxing. Thank you for being a contributing member to the harmony, CC.
