Chronos The Watch Thread.

I was thinking it was about time to gift myself something nice and I decided to invest in something else other than parts for the E39. So, my everyday watch for the last few years is a Seiko 5 SNK809K2, a 36mm automatic, which is light enough, small enough, but not accurate enough. I also have a Hamilton Khaki field, but at 39mm feels a bit big for everyday.

The idea is to get this one:

A Stowa Flieger 36mm. At roughly 1200€.

Any opinions or other ideas for something similar around the same mark?
I was going to recommend a Doxa but I think their smallest watch is like 42mm so bigger than what you are looking for. If you are into vintage maybe a vintage Omega Seamaster. Some people don't like dailying vintage but I wear my 50 year old watch daily.

With the Seiko, they are usually pretty inaccurate because they are unregulated. You can get it regulated and probably get within like 4-6 seconds a day. I have that same Seiko model in the beige and red dial versions, such a great watch.

I don't mind vintage. Both the car and the wife I run daily have their a certain age, so I'm fine. BUT, I have absolutely no idea where to look for one, which is what keeps me back.

At some point I got myself a cheap set of watch tools, but regulating a watch takes time and patience. I have neither of those.

eBay is honestly pretty good. Lots of options. You can buy the watch, take it to a local watchmaker who knows his stuff and get it authenticated. If it's fake or as any fake parts that weren't disclosed it is very easy to get your money back.

eBay has their own authentication service but I would not trust that as they don't even open up the case backs to look at the movement.

Congratulations!
How does it wear? I mean size and the bracelet. It seems like the 40 mm fits your wrist like a glove.

Amazing fit. I believe they removed two links from the original fitting (I have quite small wrists) and now it's a pretty tight.

The clasp and bracelet itself wear very comfortable due to the AP-esque styling, and the exposed mechanism at the back is also a nice touch. The watch itself feels very flat and slim, which is unlike most of the modern day rolexes I wear.

Definitely my new daily 😃

The movement inside, the bracelet, the case...all are executed to a higher level than what Rolex has offered us until now.
Wear it in good health!
