The Veyron is a phenomenal achievement. It has tons of presence and it has epic performance (in optimal conditions). But beautiful it is not.

The most beautiful (and I mean epically more beautiful than even Linda Evangelista and Paulina Porizkova combined) supercar ever made is the McLaren F1. It will never date and it will never fade in the minds of people who truly, deeply appreciate what makes a car special.

The Veyron is a firm favourite of mine by all means and it looks spectacular. But to dismiss the F1 out of hand in the manner you've done is wrong.

hmmm, I am trying to figure out how those two comments are compatible.. Care to elaborate? I am left unsure whether you like the Veyron's looks or not. Spectacularly ugly??! but then why would it be a favourite of yours?

It's quite simple. The Veyron can be described as a car that impresses with its presence. It's a combination of unique looks (for a supercar) with a very solid, concentrated features. The Veyron seems to press down on the road beneath it - every one of its two-thousand-odd kilo's visually apparent. But again, it's not beautiful. It's limpet-like, muscular looks deny it the grace and delicate beauty of the sleekest, most elegant supercars. Many things can be spectular without necessarily being beautiful.

I once likened the Bugatti to a Bullfrog in a Tuxedo. That was wrong of me as I've since warmed to its rock-solid, ingot-like looks.

Those "allegations" are indeed confirmed in this month's edition of Top Gear magazine.

I would be interested to know how much the Veyron's power output increased as airflow over the Veyron's 10 radiators (especially the intercooler one) increased with speed. My suspicion is that in cooler conditions with launch control the Veyron would have beaten the McLaren off the line and continued to open the gap from there. As Castagna said, Top Gear is an entertainment show, they needed to make it closer to make it more exciting.

A better counterpart to cinque (of which only 5 was made and is a street version of a race car) will be the F1 LM (also of only 5 were made and is a street version of race car). So it will be more like

680HP, 705 NM, 1062kg

Yes, my money will be on F1 LM.
