Roewe Racing won the Nürburgring 24h after a crazy race with power outages, crashes, insane action and driving!

SP8T class was also immensely entertaining because the Black Falcon (Misha, Broadbent, Steve, Metzger) and Doerr Motorsports (Farfus, Strycek, etc.) went head to head for the entire race.

Congrats to ROWE. I have to confess, with only one M4 GT3, and seven 911s, in the race this year I'd kind of written it off as a Porsche victory - clumsy move by Estre cost them that though.

Someone knows the detailed differences between M4 GT4 Evo in SP8T class vs SP10? I know, that the SP8T version is quicker...

I don't know specifically, but when Aston Martin ran their GT4's in SP8T it was because they were allowed more power, and they also ran a non-homologated rear-wing... I'd imagine it'll be something similar for the BMW.

Just got back from the 24 hour Nring! What a fantastic event.

YAY BMW, though I honestly think Manthey was robbed. I don't think it was Estre's fault at all. That guy should have stayed more wide in that corner.

It was a Porsche show and they have the best cars. Not even closed in fact. Manthey is pure magic.

Here’s some utterly random and useless pics:

That was absolutely on Estre... he went for a gap that wasn't there, and instead of cleanly passing the backmarker (as per the rules), he flipped the backmarker onto its roof.

I get that maybe it was a harsh penalty, the BMW was only on for a 32 second penalty IIRC for punting off a Cayman, so 100 secs seemed a lot.

Yeah I guess so. I mean everybody including the stewards thinks that. Still personally I feel Estre thought the other car would go wider so he could pass on the inside, which he had done literally hundreds of times by that time.......

Anyways, I am not complaining that much. Very happy for Rowe and their highly impressive 24 hours. Starting from that far back and with only one BMW GT3 car in the field? Yes!

Maybe, but he shouldn't assume that. If the back markers move off line they either do it early, or use their indicators to show which way they're going to move, the Aston did neither. It's a shame, Manthey had been pretty faultless all race and absolutely deserved it on pace... 0.5 second lapses of judgement have ruined a great many races for people... this was one of them!

What a fantastic event.

It's pretty much the best event there is. If it wasn't a 10 hour drive (and If I didn't absolutely hate driving on the wrong side of the road) I'd probably go a lot more often! If I lived 3 hours away, I'd probably go for most of the NLS races too.

Maybe, but he shouldn't assume that.

But why not when the slower guy in front in you opens up a gap and then last second closes it? Not being required to move away doesn't mean he shouldn't move away. If people don't move away predictably on the Ring you simply can't race there. It's too narrow and crazy.

I mean, what would you do in a lower class and you have the two race leaders in a HIGHER class moving in on you at breakneck speed? Right, you don't get involved.

Just my POV

Just clear your agenda for next year and mentally prepare for driving on the right side of the road. We will BBQ together and have a great time!
Next year seems to be May, btw.

He's just following the racing line...

You can see the M4 behind is following the Aston because they're both on the actual racing line...

At this point, Estre is off the racing line and is basically lining up a dive bomb - the Aston is just doing exactly what he does every lap.

I'm up for it, we'll see. Did you stay at the track overnight?

Came there Saturday around 2ish PM, and left around 12:30 AM. It's still a 3,5 hour drive to The Hague, so all in all an exhausting experience even though we kind of settled down a bit with a BBQ, beers and the typical Nring 24h lifestyle. But yeah, left home 9 AM, got home 4 AM the next day. I'll be in a tent next year for sure.

Someone knows the detailed differences between M4 GT4 Evo in SP8T class vs SP10? I know, that the SP8T version is quicker...

Update: Misha talks about it in his new video... he indicates it's because the car runs Bilstein suspension which is not what the GT4 comes with as standard. He does also indicate that car makes 550hp, which would also be more than the GT4.

Yep. Saw this ;) ... so SP8T is a mixed bag ... and needs strong BOP regulations to work. Not a fan of it. And maybe a reason, why the McLaren dominated the SP8T in its 1st show-up.

This is what ChatGPT has to say:

🔧
  • Definition: SP10 is the GT4 homologation class in races like the Nürburgring 24h and VLN/NLS.
  • Homologation: Cars must comply with FIA GT4 regulations.
  • Balance of Performance (BoP): Strictly governed by SRO/FIA GT4 BoP (controls weight, restrictor size, power output, ride height).
  • Allowed Modifications: Minimal — teams must run the car as homologated.
  • Use Case for M4 GT4 Evo:
    • When the M4 GT4 is raced as it’s homologated, it fits into SP10.
    • Ideal for teams running customer racing programs.

⚙️
  • Definition: SP8T is a special class for turbocharged cars over 4.0L displacement (or power equivalent), not necessarily homologated.
  • Homologation: Not required. More open than GT4 classes.
  • BoP: No standard FIA BoP; balance is done by event organizers (e.g., Nürburgring-specific).
  • Allowed Modifications: More freedom — teams can:
    • Modify aerodynamics
    • Upgrade brakes, suspension, or cooling
    • Run non-GT4 tires or electronics
  • Use Case for M4 GT4 Evo:
    • Teams may enter the M4 GT4 Evo in SP8T if they want to modify the car beyond GT4 specs.
    • It’s also an option when the car’s BoP or homologation window expires.

As ever, ChatGPT is shit.

SP8T is not for cars over 4.0L displacement, it's for cars up to 4000cc.

If it was for cars over 4 litre, the M4 GT4 wouldn't be eligible.

Scary stuff. F' ing Sam Altman making it look like that shit works.

I'm always harsh on ChatGPT - it does have it's uses - but the amount of stuff it gets wrong is too damn high.

The forum now has Gemini built in, and it's made exactly the same mistake the first time I asked, on the second time, it started waffling on about alternative fuels.

Aaanywho...
2:45:00 left to go at Spa...
