In what has to be a GCF first a surprising level of restraint has been exhibited in the Official Mercedes-Benz AMG GT thread in that very little criticism over the car's design has been meted out.

Now, either the AMG GT is just such a successful design that everyone's plainly in love with or there are some folks out who, in an uncharacteristic show of decorum, have avoided expressing their true impressions on Merc's latest and greatest.

So, here's the opportunity to discuss the design and tell us how you really feel.

I like it, but as I said in the GT post it's a very generic coupe design which doesn't bring anything new style wise to the table. Look at the rear from the A pillar back in the photo above, it's pure 911 from this angle.

I like it a lot too but it's not love. It looks great from the 3/4 angles but side on, the profile lacks something.

Love it, very beautiful combination of classic and modern styling themes. I can imagine that this car will age very well and over time the looks will be admired by most people. One thing for sure cant wait to see it in real life!!

I am kind of split about the car. Don't like the front, rest is nice. In the end, I don't like the driving experience of cars with super long hood and you sit a mile back. So I guess that puts me in the "don't really care" camp.

I like it in black and yellow is good too. But had there been the choice of "Love it" I wouldn't have clicked it. Í like the front because I like the 3 pointed star grille. To me it looks better than the SLS front. More aggressive and angry. The rear is the problem. Too smooth, so called bath tub look alike. Why bother with the GT when you can have the original which looks far better at the rear and have the engine there too. And yes two more seats inside.

For me it looks like it drove under a truck and shove the windscreen backwards. Like the Viper (which I don't like either).

I photoshopped a little and think these proportions are better.

As for the interior.... neh, to much bling bling

Every generation of sports Mercedeses has its unique, timeless design which he causes that these cars practically aren't becoming outdated..

I like it, the body design is nice except for the slightly exaggerated headlights and cartoony eyebrows.

It`s the interior that bothers me in some points
For a 100k car there are some flaws I do not like. Lets start with C-Class bits in the AC vents. The fact that thay protrude and the slats within the vents appears to have been taken from the C. The designers appear to have cheated by adding 4-center vents when 3 would have worked just fine. (Thay added 4 to try to make it look more upscale.) In a supercar it is too busy looking. Those 4-vents should be reserved for the hi-end sedans and coupes with the old-world Coach-Builder theme, in a Benz it crowns the look. Sports car interiors are supposed to be as clean and efficient as possible as the focus is the drive, luxury items are secondary.
The other design flaw I do not like in the center console is the placements of the shifter.
Why the heck would thay move it behind the Infotainment Controller for the sake of cup-holders.
It looks too jumbled up and busy for no reason. The Infotainment Command should have been either redesigned and moved along side the shifter like the SL for example, or moved further back and the shifter placed behind the cupholders. (this new infotainment controller should have been completely redesigned for the newer sports cars to begin with. The one from the C-Class and maby upcoming E-Class is too big and gaudy. It appears to be out of place for a sleek sports car. imo) What I see here is a lack of logical design principles Mercedes is well known for. It appears things were rushed from students just getting into the business.
Mercedes took the time to get the interior bits and control placements right in the SL. It`s interior is more upscaled than the GT for the asking price. The GT has some added generic bits with some other interior flaws that simply do not make it special enough to sit above the SL imo.

It would be nice if AMG revived a ultra hi-end, completely redesigned SLR to top off it`s sports car line. Thay have their hands cut loose and are more than capable of pulling that off.

I hear it drives great but design-wise I absolutely do not like it. I find it really fascinating how unanimous the positive reaction to the design is. Probably, I just do not understand sports car design.
Imo (!!!), the GT (at least when not painted in silver or yellow) looks less expensive than it actually is (with many obvious details taken over from the SLS, too much C class elements in the interior). Also, the position of the doorhandles looks wrong, the backlights don't work for me at all, as well as the sharp angle in the rear side windows and the transition from roof to trunk. When depicted in very small formats as above, I repeatedly mistake it for an F-type (that I consider more attractive overall). In some angles, it looks 911ish which has a layout advantage to me. Maybe I have to see it in flesh and bone to appreciate it.

i like it, but i don't like the small kink at the end of the C-pillar/beginning of boot/trunk

and i think the SLS looks more elegant

It's certainly not bad, but I am not dying out of excitement. Exterior-wise the only thing that bothers me is the shape of the headlights. I can live with the rest and I like the overall proportions. Over-hyping it, though, killed the excitement.

That said, I don't like the interior, though. That's too much going on between the two front seats and what was an overly elegant design in the S, has gone bananas in the AMG GT. It's kind of overdone.
