Production to begin (for the EU markets) sometime in 2023 at VWs' Emden, Germany facility. An estate will follow (ID 7 ?) shortly afterwards. MEBevo toolkit. Anticipated range in top specification: 700 kms.

VW said that they will introduce the unified cell in 2023. It's likely that this will be the first car to get it. The cells have different dimensions as the current MEB format so the platform or at least the battery pack design will be modified.

Punching in a segment beneath that of the M-B EQE, I imagine. But despite that, will it be more appealing to the eye ? Not to mention possible Skoda and Cupra derivatives that often tend to be visually more attractive than their VW-brand counterparts.

Looks absolutely horrible, just like the ID4.

The shape looks decent for a BEV sedan.

...by a no name cheap Chinese brand.

Lavishly configured, The ID 4 can actually look quite sharp IMHO. Of course, the value-for-money factor evaporates as quickly as a snowball in an oven. Personally, I prefer its' Skoda Enyaq sibling. Or, if I'm prepared to splurge, the Audi Q4 eTron (which, in the metal, is genuinely bloody sharp methinks).

Nah, you're going for this.

The Audi A6 eTron Sportback's "chubby little brother" ?

Hardly "Ultimate Garage" material. But featuring highly competitive conditions of ownership/leasing, it could conceivably "work out" for Volkswagen.

Illustrator Avarvarii has probably nailed it, as most recent production prototype sightings leave little veiled:

VAGs' version of the M-B "One Bow" design paradigm.

Not very pretty. Not at all. But if VW "prices it right", it could sell in formidable numbers nonetheless. Not necessarily in Europe...but maybe North America ?

I think this is catered more to American tastes. Is this being built in the US also?

So far, Emden, Germany and VW facilities in China have been announced as production sites.

I'm not a fan of electric cars, but they are supposed to be the future, so I'd lease the one that's the quickest to recharge, because in the future, we won't be able to buy anything and we're still gonna be happy. Ownership will become a thing of the past; houses will be rented and cars will be leased and Lord helps you if default on your payments. Actually, come to think of it, we already are unable to afford to buy stuff and yet we're carrying on with our lives as if we have been lobotomized.

Anyway, sorry for going deeply off topic. Like I said, I'd lease the EV with the quickest charging speed, because the claimed range will be BS anyway.

100% agree with you,its better to have a 400Km range and charge it full in 10-15 min ,than having a 600km range but it charges for 1-2 hours

even better would be 600km range that charges in 10-15 minutes.
