The HOLD function

The HOLD fonction, in the E Class, allows you to take off your foot from the break pedal when the car is at full stop.

Can anyone tell me if is it also present on the new C Class ?

if i remember correctly, the C-class does NOT hav the function i remember asking, in hope that it did

I think it does have it. In fact I am almost sure it has the Hold function.

Yep!! The C-Class has the HOLD function! Just checked the Mercedes homepage and they say: Adaptiv Brake with "hill traction aid".

I was just about to say that all Mercedes have this as far as I know. I only notice it when stopped on a hill though.

It was. But they managed to put all the SBC-features in the newest generations of Bosch ESP (8.0 I think), so Hold function, rain micro-braking, preparation of the brake pressure when throttle released.

Now these functions are in all newest premium cars, including the new C, and even the Beemer e90 from what I know.

I think they may be some confusion between the HOLD function the Mercedes E-class has and the Hill Starting Assistance.

1. The HOLD function applies the brakes and keeps the car completely still for however long you require weather at traffic lights, a stop sign or a hill. Once you come to a stop, you depress the brake fully and the car keeps the brakes clamped down. The car will not move FORWARD or BACKWARDS. Only when you press the accelerator are they released. EXCELLENT feature which I really miss. It makes traffic lights, hills etc. so much more relaxing.

2. Hill Start Assist only keeps the car from rolling back for about 1-2 seconds when starting on a hill. It does not keep the brakes engaged however long you may require. You HAVE to get moving within that brief period otherwise you will roll back.

As far as I know only Mercedes has the HOLD function. It is fitted to the E & S, so the new C should also have it. Our new X5 only has the Hill Start Assist so I would be very surprised if any of the older BMW's (e90 etc.) have the HOLD function. I doubt it. Such a shame, because HOLD really spoils you. Once you get used to it, you'll look for it always.

Could be, never tried an e90...

But the Hold function effectively holds the car untill you hit the throttle.
If it is featured on the S-Class, it must be featured on the C too, because the S doesn't have (and never had) the SBC.

I only know MB ditched the SBC on the E FL, and decided not to put it on the W221, because they managed to put all these features in a car without SBS, thanks to the newest Bosch ESP they helped to develop.

So could be that MB has an exclusive rights on some functions...

Yes it does I'm the owner of the W204 C320 CDi and it does have the hill hold function as you described.

My W204 C-Class has Hill Start Assist, not Hold function. Pity.

Yes it does I'm the owner of the W204 C320 CDi and it does have the hill hold function as you described.

Not sure what hold function you have on the W204. I have a W211 ('08 no SBC) and a W204 both 7G-Tronic. On the 211 I depress the brake pedal as soon as I release it (think of it as a mouse double click, only slower) and the HOLD braking is applied, HOLD is displayed on the Instrument Cluster Display and the brakes are only released when you either hit the gas pedal or shift to P. On the C there is no hold function, there is Hill Start Assist which AUTOMATICALLY keeps the brakes applied for 3 seconds after you release them while on an incline. There is no way to activate this function manually while not on an incline and there is no way to prolong the 3-second window.

thanks for clarification tmehanna, i was quite sure there wasn't any HOLD function since i remember asking the dealership beforehand, but wasn't familiar with the merc names for all its gadgets
