Finding inspiration from the coverpage of the current edition of Autobild Klassik, I thought that this excursion down "Memory Lane" (well for some anyway) could be entertaining. And that for automotive historians as well.:

The FIAT 2300S Coupe:

Wonderful, that car. However, there was nothing "wannabe" about the 3200CS. It was one of the most expensive automobiles by a German manufacturer available in its' time. Hence, bonafide "Jet Set" and usually out of reach for gigolos and starlets who had no "Sugardaddies or Sugarmamas".

Fair one, at ~DM30,000 I know it was more expensive than contemporary BMW's... but I've no real idea what these other machines cost!

Well, in 1965, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT, for example, had a list price of just under 16,000 DM. The FIAT 2300S coupe was priced at just under 23,000 DM. The Peugeot 404 coupe went for just under 17,000 DM.
