I don't believe his comment that people hated the W220 design. It was alot more sleek and elegant than the W140 and found alot of favorable comments when it was launched in 1998. I do agree with his comments about the interior, that was the biggest downfall of that car, it's interior was too cheap looking for an S-class. Luckily Mercedes returned to its former glory with the terrific interior in the W221.

Yeah I have no idea where he got that from about people hating the W220’s looks. That isn’t true at all. I’ve never heard anyone say that.

I'll see a W140 every now and then, but rarely do I see a W220 or W221 these days.

In my part of the world where I work (Saudi Arabia)I see some W126, W140 still driving around but of course not in the best condition and rarely see the W220 models but W221 models are plentiful here.

The W220 design used to stop people in their tracks. I remember the sales guys from BMW and Audi pouring out of their showrooms to take a look at the car.

It's such a shame it was riddled with quality and reliability issues.

I remember when the w220 was released everyone praised its design. There were the quality issues we all know about - the Schrempp era. But by the facelift the car was really nice and I would still buy it today - primarily the supercharged S55 AMG.

This was a brilliant video, thanks for posting. It always amazes me that people and even journalists call the M5 the original sport sedan. Nonsense, the 6.3 was and the video makes that clear. Yes I get that the M5 was lighter and smaller, but the genre of the performance luxury saloon starts with this car! The rest are details.

For a 20 year old big car of about 1.8tons weight with only 205kw V8 this car performs very well.
0-100 in 6.93sec
0-200 in approx. 25.5sec
100-200 in 18.53sec.

The speedo is very accurate, it was only 2km/h out all the way to 250km/h!
