4 Series (F32) The BMW 4 Series Convertible

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the F32 (coupé version), F33 (convertible version) and F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020

As of today, it is official that the F3x chassis can also be ordered without a roof. The just presented 4 series Convertible is the fifth child of the 3er/ 4er family, alongside the sedan, touring, coupe and GT variants and will be in dealerships in the first quarter of 2014. Just like it's fixed-roof, two-door brother, the 4 series Convertible will be initially offered with the choice of two petrol and one diesel engine. The 435i comes with the familiar 3.0l I6 N55 engine and 306hp, the 428i comes with a 2.0l I4 N20 engine and 240hp, while the 420d comes with a 2.0l I4 diesel engine and 184hp, yet more engines will be available shortly. Power will be sent to the rear wheels or, optionally, all four for the 428xi, through either a six-speed manual or through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The roof is a steel construction that has the ability to completely disappear within 20 seconds, a procedure that can be executed with speeds of up to 18 km/h (11 mph). BMW has done extensive aerodynamic optimization and with the help of elements like the Air Breathers, positioned rearward of the front wheel arches and the Air Curtains, result in an aerodynamic coefficient of Cd=0.28 with the roof up and Cd=0.33 with the roof down.

The "Lines" are here to stay, so the 4 series Convertible can be ordered as a Sport Line, Modern Line and Luxury Line version, in order to further to personalise the new convertible. Even though the similarities with the 4 series Coupe are more than obvious, there are still many details that are executed differently. An example is the seats, that feature a completely new design with integrated seatbelts.

Finally, the 4 series Convertible will come with all the latest technology from Munich, such as auto Start - Stop, a Brake Energy Regeneration system, the latest iDrive and Navigation system, full color HUD, Active Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Active Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning and LED High Beam Assistant.
