GT (C192) [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT (C192) is the second generation 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. Production: 2023- Model years: 2024-

For me as a layman, the choice between the Porsche 992.2 Carrera and the AMG GT would really be a tough one.
Some will buy the AMG GT over the 911 for the same reason as with the predecessor, V8 torque and exhaust note! The boxster 6 isn’t to everyone’s taste.

I would clearly choose 992 over the fat 2 ton AMG GT which looks like a two door C-klasse. You can’t compare these two cars. With the previous AMG GT I would me more in doubt, with its low exotic look and the fantastic interior.

The AMG GT looks like a 2-door C Class now? I see a SL with a hardtop but ok.

M

It’s literally the same car with roof.

M
It is, but aside from having the same rough proportions, the details don't really look all that similar. I think the GT is much better for those differences in terms of overall look. Just looks a bit more cohesive.

Maybe in the sense that the MSA platform looks like a slightly modified MRA platform and lacking that rare supercar touch the previous car had with its bespoke unique platform.

I believe Mercedes has said the only carry over panel between the GT and SL are the doors. The rest of the skin is all new.

While they share the same platform, and thus some fundamental proportional similarities and that they share massive mechanical commonality, they are two very different exterior design propositions. Interiors are near identical obviously.

IMO while I adore the SL, it should have just been a roof chop of the AMG GT, but with a much broader spectrum of suspension tune, to equal the comfort of the SL. And maybe some more 'Luxury' interior design options in terms of trim and leathers 'exclusive' to the roadster.

That's the most sense I've heard yet.

I feel MB is sometimes it's own worst enemy, and it doesn't seem to be finance related, because the München's are still outperforming them in terms of return per vehicle. There's a newfound confusion about the brand which wasn't there when Zetsche was around.

Yes, and the SL looks like a C convertible (if it existed). The SL/ SL Coupe deserve a more distinctive and elegant design where there is no doubt what you have in front of you.

Certainly a legitimate factor. Although the purchase/leasing of cars such as these have an awful lot to do with what the owner/leaser desires to project and far less to do with the desire to explore the limits of respective road prowess or powertrains. In very many cases, these cars appeal to those who want to be admired while cruising boulevards. They appeal to the "entertainer" that lurks in so many of us.

Some of the sales would also be done a whim. Customer pops in to have their existing car serviced, sales person say that they do them a good deal on AMG GT, customer had no intention to buy one but the deal is too good to be ignored. Dotted line is signed the car is collected a few days later.

Give it a rest mate. The new one will be around the ring soon enough.
Not at that weight and performance

Too heavy, meaning poor braking, and too hard on consumables meaning too expensive to run. Tyres brakes and discs arent cheap at these sizes

I resent that stereotyping. 🤣

People take heavier, messier cars to the rings just for the heck of it. They'll take this GT to, no doubt.

And as I've said. These are likely the most compliantz easy-going variants of the GT. I'm almost certain Mercedes will do what they did with the last GT and make lighter, more aggressive variants.

Sure, but there's a difference now. The old AMG GT catered for both types: the casual "Touristenfahrten" visitor as well as the more serious track-going enthusiast - especially in GTR guise which is practically at home in the Green Hell as far as production cars go. For those so-inclined in the latter group, the new AMG GT is less appropriate by some margin.

While I wouldn't be surprised if a GTR variant of this new generation was in the pipeline, I think that we can agree that the underpinnings of the previous gen lent themselves more conducively to hardcore models like the GTR and GTR Black Series. I just don't see the same being achieved with the same success for this new generation.

The proportions and stance does that. I don’t see how anyone could get them confused but to each his own.

No ones talking about the hahah less take
Our SUV round there for a laugh.

We are talking about the guys who take track
Performance seriously and have the bank that goes with that expensive hobby.

I mean fair enough. But those guys wouldn't be taking a base AMG GT round the 'Ring either. They'd probably have any one of a GT R/Black/Track or 911 GT2/3/4 RS or 765LT or something on that order of magnitude. With a big fixed wing and carbon ceramic brakes and the full works.

If you can afford the consumables for regular racing, you can probably afford the track special editions.
