I dont think the 335i will have and advantage on the streets unless you are a supremely skilled driver, but to even take the 335i neat the limits on the streets would be dangerous, foolish and will make you loose your license. Most people will be quicker in the AWD car and if its wet the BMW wont stand a chance. And england is wet for most part of the year
far better dynamically? not what I have read or going by lap times. And stock for stock the TTS is about a second faster to 62mph.
Really you should have looked it up before making such a sweeping comment.
Tune both of them with light mods and the TTS will still be the faster car also. 360hp all for the price of a remap and 250 pound upgraded fuel pump internals
You are just one of those guys who gets decieved by the great wave of torque that a powerful diesel engine emits thinking because they have that huge push behind them that they most obviously be faster than their less torquey petrol equivelants.

True car enthusiasts will always pick petrol over diesel, and a TTS pisses all over a 335d.
Factory figures mean nothing. I have driven both cars. I have quarter miled my 335d in 13.3@106mph. TTS Cant even get into the 13's and are doing under 100mph over the standing 1/4mile.
I have even beaten 560bhp SUpercharged VXR8's on the drag strip, E46 M3's aswell. I dont ''think'' my car is fast, I KNOW IT IS.
I have friends with Tuned E46 M3's, 335i's etc, I beat the M3's and am close to the tuned 335i's

I go off REAL WORLD tests.
I actually go out and test my car with other cars properly. Not some one who looks at book figures. The 335d is quicker than what book figures suggest.

1. TT-S has done the quarter of 13.6 secs.
2. tts faster than 335i around inta, hockenheim short and sport auto wet handling track.
3. so you beat a 560hp v8 down the strip. What exactly does that prove? Absolutely nothing apart from the fact that the 560hp v8 driver perhaps doesnt quite know how to hook things up on the strip
4. e60 m3 faster than a gallardo? well there are alot of different gallardos, and the latest gallardos will make a m5 look silly as proven on this forum.
5. Your e46 friend needs driving lessons, your call will be faster in a straight line but with the amount of speed his car is capable of carrying through corners should still make his car faster. Your little experiement proves nothing.
5. a near 40 grand car versus a 14 grand car no real surprise there. Why do nt you go play with some 40k japanese performance cars that are modded?

And magazine figures suggest otherwise. The TTS is quicker than a stock 335d.
Perhaps you need to do some more research on how the TTS works. Its only 4wd when the car senses that there is a loss of traction and distributes the torque as necessary between the 4 wheels. Once rolling the TTS is 2wd

Dont worry, I wont be driving a 1.4 for much longer, only reason why I do is because im a new driver and to even insure the 1.4 cost me 2800 pounds. Come march april when I get my 2nd years ncb I will get either a leon cupra, audi s3, tts or a 335i. No boring diesels for me, I enjoy driving too much to worry about fuel economy.

a true 560hp supercharged v8 no only has more power than you, but should have around the same amount of torque unless the guy of course is lying about his cars real potential. Would you say your car is quicker than the 580hp audi rs6 which weighs more than that australian rebadged v8?
But what made you get a 335d specifically over a 335i, even though the 335i is better in every way apart from mpg?
Evolution yes, but the E46 m3 has been proven several times to be quicker still around a racetrack than a stock 335i never mind the slower 335d.
Dont worry mate, I will get a better car I would get a real performance car, unlike you have done yourself, but insurance companies will only let me insure up to grp 18 cars under my own name with a london postcode for the privalage of circa 3 grand. Group 20 cars, ie real perfomance cars would cost me a minimum of 8 grand to insure, so will have to wait another year or two.
I tell you what though when I do get my next car, how about we put our differences aside and have a meet up one day and settle this like men, and perhaps we can teach each other some things.

A stage 2, fwd VAG hothatch can do the same quarter mile time as your 335d, all for 2 grands worth of mods and a grand of that is a expensive miltek, so can be done for cheaper.
335i isnt quicker round a track though than a 335d, read this months performance car magazine.

Im not a diesel fan, used to hate diesel cars. Will never buy another, because there is not one diesel coupe better/faster than the 335d. Its accomplished.
