Test drove the New Audi TTS

Exactly, that's my point. Real world situations... I have a straight six petrol and I rarely shift past 4.5k revs... i would not be surprised if the 335d is indeed faster than a 335i in certain situations. I doubt the diesel owners are claiming that their cars would beat their couterparts at the nurgburgring

Funnily enough in a recent magazine test a 335d went quicker around a track than the 335i.

Also standing start tests were very close.

In gear 60mph rolling nothing in it.

Tuned 335d is quicker than 335i.
Tuned 335i is very quick.

I dont think the 335i will have and advantage on the streets unless you are a supremely skilled driver, but to even take the 335i neat the limits on the streets would be dangerous, foolish and will make you loose your license. Most people will be quicker in the AWD car and if its wet the BMW wont stand a chance. And england is wet for most part of the year :D

Ive driven both (TTS and E92), the E92 coupe is far better dynamically. The 335d is faster in a straight line also

far better dynamically? not what I have read or going by lap times. And stock for stock the TTS is about a second faster to 62mph.

Really you should have looked it up before making such a sweeping comment.

Tune both of them with light mods and the TTS will still be the faster car also. 360hp all for the price of a remap and 250 pound upgraded fuel pump internals ;);)

You are just one of those guys who gets decieved by the great wave of torque that a powerful diesel engine emits thinking because they have that huge push behind them that they most obviously be faster than their less torquey petrol equivelants.

The word la la land comes to mind.

True car enthusiasts will always pick petrol over diesel, and a TTS pisses all over a 335d.

Factory figures mean nothing. I have driven both cars. I have quarter miled my 335d in 13.3@106mph. TTS Cant even get into the 13's and are doing under 100mph over the standing 1/4mile.

I have even beaten 560bhp SUpercharged VXR8's on the drag strip, E46 M3's aswell. I dont ''think'' my car is fast, I KNOW IT IS.

I have friends with Tuned E46 M3's, 335i's etc, I beat the M3's and am close to the tuned 335i's

You dont know what your talking about, you go of ''book figures''

I go off REAL WORLD tests.

I actually go out and test my car with other cars properly. Not some one who looks at book figures. The 335d is quicker than what book figures suggest.

Dont tell me, i bet you dont believe an E60 M5 is quicker than a Gallardo.:t-banghea

Thats me in my diesel behind my friend in his modded M3, His M3 has coilovers, AP brakes, Anti-roll bar modifications, Re-map Pulleys, 100 cell cats, Modded EXhaust and an air filter.

I passed him the next corner and pulled away.

On the road, rolling start drag races i pull away, EVEN HE WAS amazed.

I dont expect someone like you to understand this.

Oh and he is me racing a SEAT Cupra like yours at the drag strip.

Get over the diesel thing mate, BMW diesel engines are superb. They have moved the game on....

I would have thought a true petrol head would Have shown some interested and given some respect to a modern day performance diesel:eusa_clap

Oh here is another vid of me against a another friends M3 EVO

Yes my car is quick, yes i beat Older generation M3, M5' Yes i beat Audi S5's and TTS...

GET OVER IT.

Oh and i am very much a True car enthusiast, thats why i gave the 335d a chance, and it proved itself TENFOLD. What a brilliant performance car.

My next car will be even quicker. An M6 Or 997 Turbo.

Thanks:t-cheers:

Audi, quote quicker times than what their cars really do, BMW the opposite.

Your a joker if you thinka TTS is quicker in a straghtline than a 335d stock for stock.

4WD eats up its own power, 4WD has much higher transmission losses. Kills rolling speed.
Like i said Ive driven both. And ive raced and beaten quicker Audis than the TTS.

EDIT SORRY THE video is of me racing a CUPRA. Not a 1.4 like yours

I am one of those guys who tests his car to the extreme, on track/road and drag strip with other performance cars. Yes the torque helps its performance.

I have been timed with Official FIA equipment and have a very quick car. Quicker than your beloved TTS.

Have you driven one yet? Disappointing isnt it.

P.S Forget 0-60mph,

0-100mph, stock 335d 13secs, the TTS 15secs.

:t-crazy2::t-crazy2::t-crazy2::t-crazy2:

1. TT-S has done the quarter of 13.6 secs.
2. tts faster than 335i around inta, hockenheim short and sport auto wet handling track.
3. so you beat a 560hp v8 down the strip. What exactly does that prove? Absolutely nothing apart from the fact that the 560hp v8 driver perhaps doesnt quite know how to hook things up on the strip ;)
4. e60 m3 faster than a gallardo? well there are alot of different gallardos, and the latest gallardos will make a m5 look silly as proven on this forum.
5. Your e46 friend needs driving lessons, your call will be faster in a straight line but with the amount of speed his car is capable of carrying through corners should still make his car faster. Your little experiement proves nothing.
5. a near 40 grand car versus a 14 grand car no real surprise there. Why do nt you go play with some 40k japanese performance cars that are modded?
6. A light modded TTS will be faster than your remapped 335d ;)
7. What made you choose diesel over the petrol 335i?

p.s

0-160 tts 12.6 secs
0-160 335i 13 secs, and the diesel is slower than the petrol ;)

There is a reason why on pistonheads people find it amusing that you diesel boys for some reason think your cars are so much better than everything else ;)

Wow you spout so much crap as if its fact. Audi figures are usually conservative, a well know fact. :t-crazy2:

And magazine figures suggest otherwise. The TTS is quicker than a stock 335d. ;)

Perhaps you need to do some more research on how the TTS works. Its only 4wd when the car senses that there is a loss of traction and distributes the torque as necessary between the 4 wheels. Once rolling the TTS is 2wd ;)

So you raced people and beaten them and how exactly is that a scientific test? :t-crazy2:

Dont worry, I wont be driving a 1.4 for much longer, only reason why I do is because im a new driver and to even insure the 1.4 cost me 2800 pounds. Come march april when I get my 2nd years ncb I will get either a leon cupra, audi s3, tts or a 335i. No boring diesels for me, I enjoy driving too much to worry about fuel economy.

Driving to the extremes on public roads? Wow you really do have your head up your own ass. No wonder your threads on pistonheads turn out the way they do. Lets hope you dont go killing anyone.

LOL at you big time.

TTS Is slow mate.

Get a stock from the dealership TTS, it wont do anywhere near 12 sec 0-100mph. Press cars... eh dont ya just love them.

The VXR8 owner said my car is quick. He wasnt struggling. Its a quick car the VXR8 for sure. But so is a tuned 335d.

My car does everything great, thats why i got it.

Fundage allowing id love a GT3 track car, and my car for everyday.

Your right, new LP560 and superleggera are quicker than E60 M5, the early ones are not.

Least you appreciate a 335d is quicker than a E46 M3 in a straightline, finally your understanding.

Still dont know whay you cant understand why the E92 cant be quicker round a track.

E46 M3 is a 8 year old design now. THE E92 2 years old.

Evolution it is called my friend dont be scared that a newer Non M/// is quicker than the previous generation M///.. The current E92 335d in stock form (yes with no LSD) was only 2 secs slower around brunters than an E90 M3.

You have some serious diesel hang ups.

Spose wheni get my M6 you will moan that is slow. etc.

get a life my friend, or at least a better car. You may feel better about yourself and not want to put down others peoples cars who are better than your own.

Your just a jealous human being. Dont worry i wont be jealous of you when yu get A 335i, i am not a jealous person

Start being nicer, people will be nicer to you.

The day you buy a TTS or 335i i want to see it, cant see it happening ANY TIME SOON.

Sorry, but your being a pr***

If you don't watch your self "mate" you will find yourself Banned!

As for you beating a VXR8 with 580bhp don't say much. 580bhp to the rear wheels off the line is just going to spin, so by the time the wheels have traction you will have already finished.

Look you blinkered immature man,

a true 560hp supercharged v8 no only has more power than you, but should have around the same amount of torque unless the guy of course is lying about his cars real potential. Would you say your car is quicker than the 580hp audi rs6 which weighs more than that australian rebadged v8?

But what made you get a 335d specifically over a 335i, even though the 335i is better in every way apart from mpg?

Evolution yes, but the E46 m3 has been proven several times to be quicker still around a racetrack than a stock 335i never mind the slower 335d. :t-crazy2:

Dont worry mate, I will get a better car I would get a real performance car, unlike you have done yourself, but insurance companies will only let me insure up to grp 18 cars under my own name with a london postcode for the privalage of circa 3 grand. Group 20 cars, ie real perfomance cars would cost me a minimum of 8 grand to insure, so will have to wait another year or two.

I tell you what though when I do get my next car, how about we put our differences aside and have a meet up one day and settle this like men, and perhaps we can teach each other some things.

p.s

A stage 2, fwd VAG hothatch can do the same quarter mile time as your 335d, all for 2 grands worth of mods and a grand of that is a expensive miltek, so can be done for cheaper. ;)

335i isnt quicker round a track though than a 335d, read this months performance car magazine.:usa7uh:

You dont liek my car cuz its diesel, if i bought the petrol one you prob find something to moan about.

Im not a diesel fan, used to hate diesel cars. Will never buy another, because there is not one diesel coupe better/faster than the 335d. Its accomplished.

Just get fed up of haters like you.

But spose that will all go when i get an M6 or Porsche.

P.S A VAG hatch is still a Vag hatch.

Still a lot more modded than my car. If i spent 2k mine would be even quicker.

But lets not tit for tat.

*Moderator alert*

I'm watching you guys, relax and stay out of the personal stuff. Some like diesels cars, some don't. Nothing to get personal about.

Just warning you, Mods have eyes everywhere:usa7uh:

As for diesels your 335d, I quite like the smooth roar from a diesel:usa7uh:

Quicker by how much. Usually there one or two results that goes against the majority.

Tell me though how am I a hater? Because I picked you up on your comments about how you for some reason believe that your car is faster than a evo fq 400 etc?

p.s

A vag hatch costs alot less than a bmw coupe, and 2k wouldnt get you much gains on a 335d at all. That would just about cover a full turbo back exhaust seeing as yours is TT. Gains of around 15hp lol. Atleast it wont sound like a diesel anymore then.

I never said its quicker than an FQ400 dude.

Its is most certainly quicker than the new stock evo and subaru Sti models.

But mine is tuned and they are stock.

I have 345bhp and 530ibs torque with just a re-map, A golf with 320bhp does similar 1/4mile times, so a VAG turbo does need close HP to my heavy car to be as quick.

Re-map as little as 300 for a 335d, 345-350bhp + Zorst 250 for another 10bhp + filter 75 quid for maybe 5 more?

thast sover 360bhp and shed loads of torque, cant grumble with that.

I give up, My car is diesel therefore is slow

Sorry my master:bowdown:

Hello dxb335d,

I have to disgree with your conclusions of that the TTS is slower and less dynamic than a 335.

Just look at some of these tests. First a Sportauto Supertest of a 335i compared to a Supertest of the TTS.

It's tit for tat really in a straight line from a standstill with the 335i marginally quicker (.1s) to 100km/h then the TTS .2s quicker to 160km/h and then the 335i with a 1.2s to 200km/h.

But the suprise is the ingear times where the TTS has an advantage.

13e0f4721de419870c93159b2a10e74b.webp
849e9413899b7daef92f4fdeed3a81f9.webp

Next comes some slalom and wet handling tests. Nothing in it really except in the wet handling where the Quattro obviously comes in with an advantage (although the standard 2wd TT seems to do even better that the TTS if you looks at the time comparisons, the TT must just be a fine handler in the wet).

0f5a40f7cdeb7a8ffbd4913c307eb2eb.webp
5317c479493ab062dc2aacbb315dc17b.webp

Then onto the track tests, again very little in it, the 335i having an advantage on the Ring and the TTS at the Hockenheim.

d5fb58f5b11c85e6013d7b589f986aea.webp
bec7dbaceb17b46869e18589208f6580.webp

and in all the tests I've seen the i has a slight advantage 0-whatever than the d, but I cannot find any track tests of the d to compare, however I would suspect the i to have an advantage on a track.

Oh by the way, hello everybody, my first post :eusa_danc

One of Audis small and most sporty cars is about as fast as an ordinary midsize BMW. I think it is quite good work by BMW. Anyhow, most tests never tells you what is most important; how does the car feel, the dynamics and driving pleasure. This is very subjective and it is hard to draw any conclusions from what a journalist tells you. Some actually think that a 4WD car generally delivers more driving pleasure than a RWD.

Oh, and again. This is a review of the Audi TTS, much to much BMW here.

Thanks for your impressions about the TTS!! Very nice review! :usa7uh:

But I'm a bit disappointed about this diesel vs. petrol discussion!! Some people love diesel engines, some petrol ones – it's just a personal preference and subjective thing…there is no need to make such discussion personal. It's just annoying…and be careful! The moderators really have their eyes everywhere.
