Marcel Kiefer joins the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports Team
The recruitment of multiple F1 Esports Pro Series race winner Marcel Kiefer to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports driver line-up is a real boost for the team ahead of the 2023 season. The contribution made by the 24-year-old from Karlsruhe (Germany) was a key factor in Red Bull Esports winning the constructors' title in 2020; he also finished the campaign third in the drivers' championship. "I was always a big Mercedes fan growing up," said Marcel. "I can't believe I will now get to drive for them within an Esports context. It's a huge privilege to represent the Mercedes-AMG brand in the F1 Esports Pro Series." Marcel has been active in Esports since 2017 and has a rapidly growing online presence, with almost 100,000 subscribers on YouTube and 55,400 followers on Twitter. "We know only too well from the battles we have had with him over the past few years how quick he can be," said Oliver MacFarlane, Head of Esports at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
Fastest time for Maro Engel at the DTM tests
Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing set the overall fastest time in the official tests for the 2023 DTM season. Maro Engel (GER) of Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf lapped the Red Bull Ring in Austria in 1:28.117 minutes. "It was a good day and a lot of fun to work with the team," said Engel, who was only able to be there on Sunday due to his NLS commitment. "For me, it was the first test in 2023 with Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf. Driving the Mann-Filter Mamba is always a huge amount of fun. The fan base around this car is immense, and it's great to feel that support." An excellent all-round result was completed by India's Arjun Maini in the number 36 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Mercedes-AMG Team HRT, who was third fastest on both test days.
