Here's the thing. My dad likes the BMW 1-Series, my sister doesn't. She's in love with the VW Golf followed by the Opel Astra. She doesn't even like the A-Class.

Whats wrong with your sister? My mum picked the BMW 1er over the other cars. In fact many ladies here drive BMW 1er, its a popular womans car

I agree, the VW Golf is incredibly boring looking. The only Golf which looks good is the GTI or the R32. The GT isn't bad too, but the standard Golf just looks so plain and boring.

In defense of the Golf, so do base model BMW 1-Series, Audi A3's, MB A-Classes and even Opel Astra's. If you want a stylish ______ (insert any car from above), you need to PAY MORE.

Oh I know what she should buy, a Opel Astra OPC. Its the worst car I have ever driven, Turbo, 240hp and FWD, the car was quick like hell but that crazy engine and the chassi didnt go hand in hand. but I think your sister going to like it

That's a lovely car, but we're looking at economy and no diesels. So she probably needs some of the smaller engines.

The new Opel Corsa is also a nicer looking car but it's a little cramped on the inside. My sister is 6'0" tall.

She doesn't like the A-Class from a design POV. For her internship with a detergent company, she was given an A180 CDI and drove around all of Germany in that car doing her projects for them. She said the car was great from a driving point of view and the fuel economy was superb (4.8 to 5.5 L / 100 km depending on her driving style) but the design just bugged her.

Right now, the Golf and Astra are pretty much her choices. She also considered the MINI for awhile but she finds the car a little too small and the fuel economy of the gasoline MINI's isn't that great when compared to the Golf for example. No diesels because of the diesel tax and because she'll never manage 15,000 km in a year.

I told her to check out the Audi A3, but she thinks the Golf "looks better" than that car.

Between the Golf and Astra Coupe, I'd actually go for the Astra. So much better looking than the Golf and even better value too.

Production stopped in 2006. If there is one Smart that was so overpriced, it's this one. 12,000 Euros for the base 1.1 model without a radio or an A/C. Add those two, and price jumps to 16,000 Euros.
