Following on from my report in March , there is now evidence to show the forthcoming MINI Cooper S JCW GP is just on the horizon. Caught after some "honing" at the Ring the photographs show some of the features of the incoming new performance MINI.
Spyshots: MINI Cooper JCW with GP Kit - autoevolution
For example the new Aerodynamics package specifically for this car with reprofiled front spoilers and side skirts and MINI Challenge car inspired rear wing , diffuser and a Performance exhaust with some appendages being constructed from CFRP.
Other interesting clues reveal the absence of rear seats and another interesting detail to see how MINI are dropping weight is the absence of the heavier Xenon lights which will give a significant front end weight advantage.
The interior follows the same race inspired idea in relation to CFRP and Alcantara trim and specific bucket seats for the driver and passenger.
MINI are hoping that this car based on the soon-to-be expired R56 series inspires a new sub-brand for more Performance orientated MINI's over the standard JCW series. Think of MINI having an "M" like sub-brand ontop of JCW. With a similar aspect of engineering details such as improved steering and handling to more performance over a standard JCW.
Aswell as the regular hardtop MINI there is potential for a more performance orientated Coupe and with the Countryman the best selling MINI there is even Potential for a more Hardcore Countryman or forthcoming MINI Sport Activity Coupe.
With the "Father" of the BMW 1er M Coupe - Dr.Kay Segler personally overseeing this project there is every potential for this to be the loudest , lightest , best handling and best sounding MINI yet.
The MINI Cooper S JCW GP will premiere at MINI United in May with the car arriving on the market before the end of 2012.
