8 Series [Spyshots] BMW’s 8-Series Gran Coupe Makes Its Spy Debut

The BMW 8 Series is a range of grand tourer coupes and convertibles produced by BMW. The 8 Series was introduced in 1990 under the E31 model code and was only available as a two-door coupé. The E31 was discontinued in 1999 due to poor sales. The model range was later reintroduced in 2018 with the second generation, G15 8 Series. It launched in coupé (G15), convertible (G14), and four-door Gran Coupé (G16) body styles, as the successor to the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup.

These are the first spy shots of the upcoming 8-Series Gran Coupe, which is a longer, four-door version of the recently launched Coupe.

The new member of the expanding 8-Series family was previewed by τηε M8 Gran Coupe concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. As the test car shows, the four-door 8-Series does a pretty good job at retaining the dynamic lines of the Coupe, only now it’s noticeably longer to make room for those extra rear doors.

As for the range-topping M8 Gran Coupe, we expect BMW to use the same oily bits with the current M5, meaning a twin-turbo 600hp V8 pared to a configurable all-wheel drive system. Some reports suggest that the M Division will increase the horsepower figure for the M8 a little, just to give its flagship M model the edge, but that remains to be seen.

BMW is expected to reveal the production version of the 8-Series Gran Coupe in 2019 as a 2020MY.

I will not exclaim a spirited "BRAVO" just yet.

But like the Mercedes-AMG X290, it's sure to grow on me.

I've got to say I'm not too impressed with the 8. I've seen the coupe in real life and it has some weird angles to it. I'm hoping that it was just the Barcelona blue, which I don't like at all.
But I was also hoping that the GranCoupe could fix some problems of the coupe, while these first spy shots look rather disappointing.

Granted, the swirly-foil cloaks the flank sculpturing and fine accentuations. Elegant colors and nice, larger dimensioned rims will help provide an attractive, perhaps beautiful, car. However, I recall finding the first prototype photographs of the F06 GC more exciting. Then again, the novelty factor of the F06 certainly had something to do with that as well.

^ those last pics of 8er on the truck gave me A7 vibes, for some reason.
To me, the rear, straight on, looks too agressive for a nice, svelte sedoupe, assuming the rear will look like the Coupé.

From the base of the A-pillars back, I find the new A7 gorgeous. Perhaps the best particular segment of design among all of its' competitors. Such a pity that the area from the A-pillar base forwards is so awkward looking, leaving this particular segment the least attractive among all of its´ competitors. Damn shame that.

Yes, it looks too FWD from the A-pillar to the front. I do think however, it still is a very good looking car. Cut-out-of-one-piece-impression.
I’m curious how the 8er GC is going to look, but as said above, the rear straight on too agressive and I don’t like the trunklid shutline. Didn’t like that on the on the 6er and don’t like it on the 8er.
As a whole, it probably looks fine, the side profile and straight from the front will be nice. I hope BMW prices it moderately. It can be rather expensive, but then it must be loaded as standard. Not that a 840d costs at about € 115.000 and I still have to order for € 35.000 extra’s to make it a decent car.

Not to mention a massive ass-whipping from Cadillack.
When Caddy produces a 100+k car, it won't have a 60k interior. I bet even the CT5's interior will be more original.

I can't believe they want so much money for this. I'd better go with an E-class. Or AMG gt.

You're right. For 60k, you can get much more than that.

Back on topic: it looks better than the concept, already. Maybe the massive body will take some weight off the bulky front.
