E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Spyshots] 2020 Mercedes Benz E-Class W213 Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.

If true, then why such a drastic makeover, remembering of the BR 212 case?

It seems they only nailed the C-Class and S-Class designs, since they were not dramatically changed with their facelifts. The E-Class seems to always be wrongfully styled.

I have right now a C43, but have had E class loaners several times. Couple cheaper things on the E that I have noticed immediately:

1. Door panel standard trim on E is not even a soft material, but instead a hard plasticky trim.

2. Door pocket trim is way cheaper. Verticals part isn’t lines with carpet like C and bottom doesn’t have a rubber bottom trim.

3. Center armrest button is plastic as opposed to metal trim button.

4. Plastic trim in between the drivers gauges has a big gap and looks cheap.

BTW, also noticed that on the E convertible, the trim in between the rear seats and side panel is hard plastic whereas on the C it’s a soft trim plastic.

Considered and I disagree I also have experience in Mercedes in my family since I was born basically I am driving Mercedes before i got my licence ..

I do watch and read both their comments and respect their views on this one I disagree.

I have both cars in my driveway the E and the C and 10 times out of 10 I would choose the E.

IMO the C has nothing that the E doesn't have.

I even feel E looks better which is personal preference ..

For me the E is a superior car in all ways.

To me the E looks more elegant and refined than the C. Especialy because of the fact the E hasn’t the so called dropping line. It is an aspect of personal taste though.
Concerning the Modellpflege/FL, I can’t imagine it will be an extended one exterior wise: the E still is selling very well, looks modern and congruent. No need for major “plastic surgery”.

Agree. This is why I tagged Monster. He is a MB fan but objective enough to say when things are not working. And posting photo proof about it.

Quite a sad list of things that PHYBENZ has named btw. This should be allowed in a car lile the E-Class.

The E needs a good face lift. Honestly this car is so dull. the C with the dropping line looks better. There is nothing wrong with it, just nothing special.

Definitely. W213 is the worst, grandpa - looking sedan in the MB lineup right now. What's more, it's IMO almost the worst looking E-Class of all times, just after W210. Current competitors, especially 5er and S90, literally kill it.

The W213 is far from being the worst looking E-Class ever.

And it has always been the grandpa choice of the segment.

Thank you @SKY, I saw the tag before. To be honest @PHYBENZ is quite accurate and I agree with his points. If it wasn't for the napper leather trim, the dual screen display and the Burmester speaker grills on our E class, the interior of the W213 would feel just the same, if not worse than the W205. For example the artico trim on the inner door panel actually wrap around the edges on the W205, but it doesn't on the W213, the door bins on the W205 have a rubber mat at the bottom, there is no such rubber lining or mat in the door bins on the W213. The overhead sun glass compartment is lined with felt on the W205, however on the W213, it is left un trimmed, in shiny cheap looking black plastic.

I will take some photos and post side by side comparison tonight.

I am disappointed with the overall interior quality of the W213, it isn't a big enough step up compare to the W205 and it is actually a step backwards compare to our W211, which we still have. Thankfully the driving experience of the W213 made up for it.

E39 and W211....

When quality was still quality.

Interesting to know, if MB has sharpened it’s red pencil and has adjusted the quality level of the recent facelifted C/W205, on the points mentioned above, down to that of the W213. Have we any members who own the FL W205?

This is exactly what I was going to ask.

I still remember going from our E39 5er to a W211 E-Class felt like an incredible jump in terms of interior fit&finish. The G30 5er interior is fantastic as well IMO. After 9 months of ownership my family is delighted with it.

In which ways? From what I remember there hardly is a jump between the two, and the G30 also is roughly on this level.

Good to read @SKY
Does the little compartement, left from the steering wheel, of your 5er has a trim/felt on the inside?

That's crazy. I can't believe the W213 interior isn't surprise or offers any nice quality touches.

The only extra I can find is the artico stitching along the transmission tunnel.
