I wonder is this going to be an EV hatch and use the platform from the 5?
No, it will be 100% combustion/hybrid engine.I wonder is this going to be an EV hatch and use the platform from the 5?
Seems a waste for them to bring out an ICE car when they have an electric platform with the 5 and could have used that to save costs on economies of scaleNo, it will be 100% combustion/hybrid engine.
But why would they have two EVs from the same brand in the same segment?Seems a waste for them to bring out an ICE car when they have an electric platform with the 5 and could have used that to save costs on economies of scale
Not only how big, but also how mature. A Clio 5 is better (as in more stable, assuring, easier to drive fast) on the road than a 15 years old Golf! It's amazing how big this "Polo class" has gotten.

Just for comparison there is a slight size gap, the current Clio is 13cm longer than the new 5 and the new model above looks substantially larger so could end up being 20cm longer than the 5, so then they shouldn't be really compared to each other but be an added model. The 5 could fit size-wise between the Twingo and next Clio. This would be an added benefit for Renault for economies of scale to make the Clio EV, but then maybe to please all fronts, they could make the new Clio as ICE and EV models. But why would they have two EVs from the same brand in the same segment?
This new Clio looks quite bloated in these pics, and size-wise, I wouldn't be surprised if it is now in the same league as compact hatches like the Golf V were in the early 2000s, at about 4.15m.It's amazing how big this "Polo class" has gotten.
I rented a new Yaris saloon recently for one month and I was quite impressed by the cars driving behaviour with it's comfortable suspension and good road holding, low noise levels and interior comfort. The interior has really comfortable seats and the overall build of the car is quite solid. Material quality in certain places of the cabin has too much hard plastic but that didn't bother me too much as it looks more expensive than it feels but felt solid. The 1.3 NA engine is smooth but lacks a bit of power and the CVT gearbox felt jerky at low speeds but the most impressive thing of the powertrain is it's excellent fuel consumption of about 6.5l/100km while driving in city.I still have my 1990 Clio and a few days ago we had a test drive of the new Yaris, as there's a thought to replace the wife's car with the latest model. Up to 150 km/h it was as stable as the X2 I drove recently!
Of the appropriate size. They’ve given it a kidney grille.![]()
