MINI unveiled the Paceman concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011 and it wasn't long before officials confirmed it for production. This progress has now been evidently documented by these spy photos that show a pre-production prototype doing a round of testing.
The Paceman name of the concept has been discarded after MINI chose to rename it as the Countryman Coupe for production. However, one area that does appear to have been retained is the exterior styling with a front end that looks almost identical. The back end on the other hand sports a layer of camouflage which appears to hide a redesigned set of taillights and a modestly restyled bumper.
The engine line-up is likely to mimic its four-door Countryman sibling which would unfortunately rule out the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that the Paceman concept was presented with. This engine generated 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS) and up to 260 Nm (192 ft-lb) and will probably be reserved for the high performance JCW (John Cooper Works) version.
The Countryman Coupe will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show in September before going on sale in 2013 as a 2014 model.

I seriously wonder who the f is the customer for this -

"Hey, I want a bigger mini, cause I want something little more practical (understandable) - oh but chop the 2 doors off cause that is just too practical."

i guess its the same ones that buy a 2 door golf (i would buy a 2 door golf)

Mini will probably say this abomination is a world first, category busting new vehicle for those active individuals seeking to distinguish themselves from others lesser beings by throwing money at this this awesome lifestyle accessory. It is the combination of a SUV+SAV+MPV+GT+sports coupe in one innovative shape that will bring pants wetting joy to anyone within a billion km radius. Same rant as I wrote for the compactive crap

I would buy one, if it had been around at the same time as I bought my Countryman I would have gone for the Coupe.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
