M3/M4 [Spy Shots] BMW G82 M4 CSL (or CS, or GTS?)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

* Automatic transmission
* New 19"/20" rims with your choice of regular sport tyres or track focused tyres
* M bucket seats standard, with upgraded racing bucket seats optional

Wonder what the "M Headlights" will be? Maybe yellow DRLs like on the M5 CS? I imagine it will have OLED rear lights too.

Any info on weight reduction?

I'm a little confused. Are you referring to the M4 CSL only or will there be both an M4 CSL and M3 CSL? Quite strange to have the latter unless BMW M want to capture part of the (miniscule) market currently occupied by the Jaguar xe SV Project 8.

Straight line speed isn't everything but we will likely see an M xDrive equiped M4 Competition out-dragging a RWD M4 CSL to the quarter mile. To be honest, it doesn't really matter and most if not all customers won't really care. The CSL should feel more special.

Sorry, when I wrote "M3 CSL" I should have written "M4 CSL". Force of habit as "M3" and "CSL" just go hand-in-hand.

The M Headlights will be standard on the M3 CS, and optional on the M4 CSL.

Pure royalty and that branding  (it already comes with another format of the famous split headlights, Citroen, Hyundai, take note)

It's not going to come close to being below 1,600kg, so of course it would be a good achievement. That would require over 200kg of weight loss, which isn't going to happen.
Nope. There are G8x Competition (with ZF8hp) equipped with track pack (CCB and carbon buckets), which weigh slightly over 1700kg (no driver, full tank). So coming close to 1600kg would mean a weight loss of 100kg.
No: I don't think, that they manage to shave off 100kg. I expect them to get the weight down by approx. 50kg.

Maybe they'll manage -100 kg if it's really going to be a CSL. CSL is an entirely different breed from a normal M or even Competition/CS. There's lot's and lots of luxury that can be thrown out.

Hm. roughly:
- Removal of sound-deadening: -15 kg
- cfrp front lid: - 6 kg
- cfrp boot lid: - 6 kg
- no/reduced rear seats: - 20 kg
- lighter rims: - 8 kg
- further interieur strip down (arm rest remove, even lighter bucket seat with manual adjust.): - 5 kg

On the other hand, a CSL will have:
- added aero
- added cooling
- maybe a half cage
which adds weight again!

So a net reduction of 100kg is really challenging!

And don't make the mistake to take the weight reduction done for the E46 M3 CSL as reference! The vanilla E46 M3 was fu..ing heavy! So it was easy to get lots of weight out! A current G8x is already massively weight optimized.

When they talked about the CSL returning to all or varioa M, I said to myself, according to what the CS already are, the only formula that remains in this context is that basically all the chassis and / or bodywork or several new parts are CFRP or at least add to what you say, the front and rear fenders.

The M5 is CS and is less 70kg. I know that the M4 CSL should fill the shoes of the previous one so why not go with everything

Oh csl Im interested in a bmw for the first time in decades.. now as always with bmw
I’ll believe it when I see it.
poor bmw fans have been hoping for all kinds of shit for years and always get let down.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
