How so? I've not come across any horror stories about the B58, yet. What have I missed?

Common BMW B58 Issues
  • Coolant Leaks/Loss: The most common issue, often due to cracked plastic coolant expansion tanks or water pump seals.
  • Oil Filter Housing Gasket (OFHG) and Valve Cover Gasket (VCG): Prone to heat-related degradation, leading to leaks, burning oil smells, and in some cases, damage to the serpentine belt.
  • PCV System Issues: The Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, integrated into the valve cover, can fail, leading to increased oil consumption and rough idle.
  • HPFP Failure: The high-pressure fuel pump (particularly on Gen 1) can fail on high-mileage units, causing long start times or misfires.
  • Carbon Build-up: As a direct-injection engine, it can experience carbon accumulation on the intake valves over time.

These are standard BMW equipment since the M52 days. I expected to hear something like the N47 timing chain failures.

I'm slightly kidding, but nothing comes without problems these days.

They're 'issues'

Pfft... noob tier minor niggles IMHO.. barely worth popping the hood or getting your wallet out for ... <laughs>

<cries>
