The days of the E class being the default taxi are long gone.
Over here where everything used to be E class in terms of taxi, they've all but disappeared in favor of way cheaper non premium cars.
Also doesn't help the E class has no EV variants, and taxi drivers love EV these days.

...although I suppose that the abundant plastic and foam cladding are accentuating that "square and upright visual". IMHO, when it starts to come off, we'll be seeing a more curvacious, "organic" design. In terms of surfacing, perhaps not unlike that of the soon to be presented C-Class EQ sedan.

My guess, anyway.

This car has massive potential. It could go either way. It almost looks retro in its squareness. That grille Mercedes is using could really come into its own here on a fresh design. Fingers crossed. Right now I see a lot of W212.

Indeed. I too am keeping my fingers crossed that M-B will deliver that resounding slam-dunk with this car. It would be just the medicine that the brand so desperately needs. The E-Class traditionally covers many bases. It is perceived by many to be THE embodiment of what Mercedes-Benz is and should be.

Profile has great proportions with short front and rear overhangs that seems shorter even than the W214. It appears to look shorter as well with reduced bonnet length. I would be happy with a large iconic grill and more upright front end like classic Mercs.
