3 Series (G50) [Spy shots] 2027 BMW 3 Series (G50)

The BMW G50 is the eighth generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G50 (sedan), G51 (wagon/touring), NA0 (i3 sedan), and G58 (long-wheelbase). Inspired by BMW's Vision Neue Klasse concept, it will be offered with both internal combustion and purely electric powertrains, though on different platforms. Predecessor: G20 3 Series. Production: 2026-
Which is predominantly visible in the roofline which extends longer on the NA0 while G50 indeed mirrors that of the G20.

The NA0 presents a more "cabin in the middle" than "cabin back" silhouette. In a sense, a subtle revisit of a sedan theme common 40-50 years ago. Revisiting the E12/E28 5ers so to speak.

NA0 has a shorter dash to axle ratio so most likely, yes.

Yep, definitely less vanity space between the door and wheel. In that sense it's more Audi than BMW.

Correct. I am having a hard time deciding what I like more, NA0 or G50. Sometimes it's the one, sometimes the other.

Ynguldyn's heavy updates on the G50, NA0 and ZA0.

G50: With the exception of smaller wheels of different design (18" standard on regular models, 19" standard on M50), the feature set will be virtually the same as NA0 below.

NA0: No major news on the packaging front, your typical 3 series car, the notable things are the availability of multifunction seats you previously could only get in a 5er or higher, more Iconic Glow exterior, standard panoramic glass sunroof, optional driver assistance at Highway and Highway/City levels (see the April 2025 update below), optional Security Assistant, panoramic vision with optional HUD, regular audio or optional HK. The wheels range from 19" (standard) to 21". Specific to M60: adaptive M suspension, M brakes, M steering wheel, multifunction seats, HUD, and HK audio become standard, the wheels start at 20", sport tire option unlocks higher top speed, M colored headlights available as an option, adds the usual M exterior bits.

ZA0: Powertrain aside, seems to be trying to provide a familiar M experience. Inside, expect higher quality interior with regular M seats standard and buckets (built with that newly announced "natural fiber") available as an option, M design trims and seatbelts, HUD as standard; outside you will see more of that "natural fiber" as trim pieces, M specific 20" wheels (options include forged 20" or staggered 20"/21" wheels), optional carbon brakes and M headlights. Purists will be disappointed to know that the panoramic sunroof of the regular i3 will remain with no lighter weight option (though the battery down low should make center of gravity concerns irrelevant)

Until now I used to doubt between the G50 and the NA1. But lately I have settled on the i3. Proportions are just better IMO.

This looks very nice too.

The shape of this is looking much more promising than the Mercedes C EV equivalent. Sadly though, with both BMW and Mercedes these days, what's lurking beneath may be far less palatable than the camo indicates.

That said, from what we have seen from BMW in terms of the new gen design and tech, things look like they will be a turning a corner at Munich. Let's hope Stuttgart isn't far behind.

I'm really looking forward to seeing BMW's new HUD/Augmented Reality UI.

The G50 quotes a number of past 3 series BMWs extending back to the E90. Fundamentally very handsome. Yet the somewhat different proportions of the NA0 i3 sedan make that car "more interesting", IMHO. I'm looking very forward to seeing the unveiled production version.

I much prefer what I am seeing in the form of the NA0 i3 sedan:

So good in fact, that I am hoping that the essences of this design eventually migrate upwards into the future 5 and 7 series sedans. And so what should some naysayers exclaim "Russian Dolls !!" ? This design promises to feature a potential of genuine timelessness that can only benefit BMW as a brand. IMHO, it is REALLY THAT GOOD.

Agree. After some time to think about it, I much prefer the proportions of the NA0.
