Hi guys,
since Sport Auto failed to publish a proper head-to-head comparison between these two super-diesels (despite they tested both cars on the very same day) I decided to compared them on one place.
So here's the datapanel, for pure comparison.
The D5 is more flexible, has a much lower fuel consumption and (partly) thanks to its grippy Super Sport tyres it humilates the M550d around the Hockenheimring (2,5 s advantage per lap).

"A bit less power and torque - but higher topspeed and better flexibility. It looks nobler in and out - for less money. Same comfort - much more agility. (...) Sorry BMW - Congratulations Alpina. So much fun paired with so low consumption is very rare. I would renounce from AWD easily. - Anja Wassertheurer on the D5 Biturbo
