CLK-Class (C209) Speed specs. for the CLK63 from Car&Driver

The Mercedes-Benz C209 is the second generation CLK-Class, launched in 2002. The car was available in both hardtop coupé (C209) and in soft-top convertible (A209). Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class. It was succeeded by the E-Class C207. Production: 2001–2009.

2007 CLK63 AMG cabrio

weight 4113lbs.

0-60mph 4.2sec.
0-100mph 9.5sec.
1-150mph 22.2sec.

0-1/4 mile 12.5sec @ 116mph
Street-start 5-60mph 4.4sec.

300ft dia skid-pad..... 0.86g

Those numbers are pretty damn impressive and very close to the E and CLS63 models. If the CLK63 cabrio has these numbers the coupe version should be really impressive (even better) to say the least. Too bad we Americans won`t be seeing the coupe anytime soon.:t-banghea

OMG Im so stupid :D my bad. I asked if the CLK63 had Pirelli tires? :)

lOl, I don`t think thay gave tire specs (not sure, I`ll check).. The review was really short with speed numbers and brake numbers.. I`ll have to post those break numbers when I come back.. I`m almost out of time here..:eusa_doh:

This is as fast as the S65 so because of this it is faster than than E63 and CLS63 which run high 12s.

CLK63 has Pirelli tires and those tires are popular among today sportcars. Tons of grip and the g-pad numbers are a big part thanks to the tires.

The CLK63 is pretty fast. 4.2 seconds? Back in the mid 1990s, most of these AMG's did 0-100 km/h in like 6.6 seconds average.

In 10 years, the CLK93 AMG will be doing 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. :t-upside: :t-applaus :laugh2:

Yes, those acceleration numbers are VERY fast indeed. And remember, this is the heavier cabrio they tested. The lighter coupe is likely even faster.

As good as these numbers are, I would also wait until Road & Track publishes an instrumented test of this car. We all know Car and Driver almost always gets the fastest times compared to most other American magazines.

Car&Driver said the CLK63 is 0.6seconds faster through the 1/4 mile than the CLK55, thay also said the car felt more responsive, thought thay wished for a little more feel. The braking distance from 70mph is 155ft.. theirs no doubt AMG is getting better with overall performance..:usa7uh:

If AMG sould the CLK63 coupe in the US, there is no doubt the magazines would compare that model to the BMW 6er.

2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Cabriolet - Short Take Road Tests

Add 113 horses to last year's model.

January 2007

The Highs: Luscious engine, remarkable performance, benign chassis, supportive seats, racy steering wheel.

The Lows: Can't buy the coupe here, outrageous price, overweight, harsh ride, doesn't look like a $90,000 car.

The current CLK is four years old, so it’s not surprising that the highlight here is the new, AMG-developed 6.2-liter V-8 beast that is spreading throughout Mercedes’ lineup of cranked-up AMG cars. It puts out 475 horsepower in the CLK63, making last year’s 362-hp CLK55 AMG seem somewhat tame. The new engine comes alive right off idle, heaving the tach toward the 7200-rpm redline and singing a refined yet seductive engine snarl that is nothing short of stupendous.

The urge to keep the throttle pinned is almost irresistible but will bring up extra-legal speeds in a hurry: 60 mph arrives in 4.2 seconds, 100 in 9.5, the quarter-mile in 12.5 at 116 mph. That’s 0.6 second quicker through the quarter than the last CLK55 coupe we tested [C/D, May 2004], despite the 4113-pound CLK63 weighing 373 more pounds. Those numbers are also within a sneeze of some intense performers, including the Ferrari F430 and BMW M5, and sufficient to humiliate the 2006 M3.

Inside, the CLK63 is fitted with seriously supportive front buckets, with lumbar, thigh, and bolster adjustments, and one of the sportiest steering wheels we’ve seen in a Benz. Even better, it doesn’t have that weighty feel we’ve become accustomed to in Mercedes products. Still, neither the steering nor the brakes respond quite as sharply as we’d like.

Turn off the stability control and the CLK63 is still as friendly as can be, happily neutral and content to slide around at hero-sized drift angles. Skidpad grip is a decent 0.86 g. But the extra-stiff AMG suspension sends noticeable tremors through the steering wheel and chassis, which makes us yearn for the more solid, sportier coupe that won’t be sold here.

The biggest negative is probably the heart-stopping $92,575 base price, some $45,600 above an entry-level CLK350. That’s also $5100 more than big-brother E63, which seems backward.

At that price, it seems Mercedes’ fabulous new engine is destined to stay rare. That’s a shame.
