S-Class (W221/C216) So I finally drove the new S-class

man either something was wrong with your S class.. or well i dont know..maybe you where on crack when you drove it..

cause when i drove it and floored it.. it gained speed like crazy..
but then again not in a dramatic manner.. but still fast as hell.. the sales dude got abit nervous..

LOL -- you know you were asking for trouble when you started this thread Deutsch, the Mercedes fans are a tough bunch, they simply will not accept criticism of any kind ...especially about the new flagship model

lOl Roberto, I`m not that defensive of the S-Class! it`s not like I`m married to the damn thing. There are certain elements that I don`t find perfect about the new S either, I`ll admit it, Mercedes has made some compromises, no car out there is perfect!


I know if I were to choose between these cars I`d go for the S-Class as far as dynamic go. The other two cars looked a little sloppy going through the cones! I wouldn`t choose a car with less dynamics.

who gives a sh** how big fat luxury car goes around the cones. This is luxury cars and not sportcars, all three S,A8 and 7er goes nicely around the cones, one slightly better than the other but it doesnt mean the others are dangerous or crap around the cones.

I should have added more context because the new S-Class beat the 7er and A8 in a number of different areas in that test. Material quality, cabin layout exc, exc, dynamic was just one of them.

I reacted cause it sounded like it was a reason to choose S-class and not the others. Audi has Quattro system, 7er got a option that offer sportier chassi alternative dynamic drive chassi, same as MB ABC if standard isnt enough for you. and just for the record my favorite luxury car is A8 so obviosly Im not defending my favorite brand this time.

Well to you it`s not rude but when anyone who starts a responce with "who gives a sh**" I or anyone else would take that as offensive or aggressive.

Anyway I'm going to leave it at that. Although the S was slightly better around the bends, there are things like Quattro and sport package that wasn't there that could have made the cars handle a bit better. In either case, I think my favorite out of the 3 is the Audi. That dashboard looks glorious.The most essential part of this test comes down to looks and comfort imo, not so much how fast it can go around cones.

Another thing, if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't touch any of these cars. Flagship sedans (meaning they are huge) with 6 cylinder engines. Sluggish would be an understatement.

Cabin layout is a matter of personal taste. The S took top honors for fit and finish in that test.

Ya know, ......call me a troll if you want to, but personally, I would rather own a Maybach than an S class ...even if it doesn't make much economic sense ...overall, I like it more.

Maybe they bugged the damm car before I drove it just to turn me off since the dealer was so damm crappy to begin w/. Believe me, I want to love this car. I think I'll give my family freinds dealer a call and see if they won't set up a time for this Sat. I would have gone there orignally but it's kind of out of the way for me. There was no reason why the car should have drove the way it did. I'm willing to give it another run and we'll see how it plays out.

Well I read this entire thread and can only describe it as interesting. The review is frank and reflects the writer's feelings and we should respect those views.

However, this discussion could go on forever...there are Audi lovers, there are BMW lovers and there are MB lovers. All have their own perspective and usually the perspective is slanted to their likings. No one here will convince the other that they should be driving something else or that their preferred vehicle is not up to par with what they desire or drive.

But, being totally impartial, I have determined that the 2007 MB S550 (S500) is by far the most advanced of the three and the others should be banned from this forum so we can all worship this great car...

How can you deny that this car is far above the others in style, performance, status and yes, cost. Take a look...can you really convince yourself that you would not want one of these in your garage?

By the way, after almost 7000 miles and counting...I honestly do like the car...

When you test it this time make sure you are in S mode...hit that little button on the left side of the mouse C/S until it show the S on the dash display. Also when you want to tromp on it...hit the button on the left side of the steering wheel and it will kick it up in gear so when you tromp it moves...
