Genesis G90 Second-gen Genesis G90 Revealed


The Genesis G90 is a full-size car manufactured since 2015 by Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Company. It is the flagship model of the Genesis lineup. A four-door sedan, the G90 is the successor of the Hyundai Equus and was known as the Genesis EQ900 in South Korea from 2015 to 2019.
There is no denying that it looks great, the profile especially in those distance and those close-up shots from the front, quite original and in your face, if this doesn't take Genesis to the next level I don't know what will, it will definitely make you look at it and wonder at least... what is that?

The price of $126,000 that I saw out there that the LWB costs, kills many things about it, it is untimely since with it they should make the market explode, it is not a marvel of engineering either and they must have thought that it would at least be more accessible

Genesis just opened their 5th stand alone dealership. They have a grand total of just 5 stand alone dealers in the entire USA. ALL of their other dealerships are HYUNDAI dealerships like I said before.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 30, 2023 – Today, Genesis continued its retail expansion with the opening of Genesis Santa Monica, the brand’s fifth standalone retail facility in the U.S. and first in California.

As announced, I test drove the Genesis G90 yesterday.

Here are a few personal observations, especially in comparison to the Mercedes W223.

Positive:
- It's a very elegant design, you can't see the car on every corner.
- Fine materials are used in the interior.
- The workmanship seems very high quality to me.
- I think it's nice that there are still buttons and that the entire operation isn't done via touch.
- The engine has enough punch.

Negative:
- I find the Mercedes W223 to be more comfortable.
- When accelerating after entering a street, I had the impression that the transmission sometimes took a second to remember when upshifting.
- It's a very big car at almost 5 meters 30. But I can easily bring it into my garage.
- The trunk seems quite small for such a big car.

Would you buy it with your own money?!? The S is a known commodity, this is still a very new entrant into what is a rapidly dying segment.
 
That's just the question I have to answer for myself. Do I get the Genesis, a (quite pretty and well-made) exotic? Or do I go with the safe variant W223?
 
Through June, Genesis has only sold 697 G90’s making it the worst selling executive car in the US behind the A8 (854). Shame being it’s a great car in isolation.

I’m a bit surprised a lot more LS’ have been sold, though more people see the LS as a safe purchase.
 
Hard to hand over 90K to a Hyundai salesman. Then again this segment is slowing dying and Mercedes and BMW own what’s left of it.
