Diesel joins Audi sports lineup

Audi is considering adding more engine configurations for its S-model vehicles in the future, including more turbocharged and diesel engines.

"The next generation of the S6 could get a diesel," said Kirstin Englhardt, project manager for the new Audi S6.

Seems like diesel turbo'd cars are the future... It would be great to see it in production in the S6.

If you look at the trends, the future are multi-turbocharged engines (diesel & petrol) & dual-clutch transmissions. And petrol/diesel - electric hybrids.

The next generation of S6? Hasn't the current one only just come out?

Nevertheless, the way I hear that the Audi R10 LeMans diesel racer is going, diesel may yet have its time in the sun, even in a sports car (or, more accurately, if it's Audi 'S' range, luxury sports). I say, I'm all for it.

Yes, diesel performance cars are the reality - soon.

Audi are diesel-ing the S-line.

BMW have also registred the "sd" trademark - for performance diesel vehicles.

MB has showed some concepts: SLK with tri-turbo diesel, and SL with V8 diesel.

Audi has the best testing with the R10 on the racing track!

- Audi Vorsprung Diesel - is somthing I really have faith in!

I really think its a bad idea....when I think of S and RS cars I think of free-revving naturally aspirited cars that don't sound like a freakin truck.

Yea, you say somthing there... The Sound of an V12 Diesel :D

Now I Know... The A models is both Diesel and Petrol.
The S Audi's that i personally don't like they shoud be Diesel
And last RS Audi's extreme racing fuel! :D (like today)

If car makers can make powerful turbodiesel engines as light as their petrol counterparts and able to produce meaningful urge at 5500 rpm before hitting the limit of the rev range, then diesels will be on their way to becoming sporting engines of note. Pity the poor manual transmissions that will need to cope with all of that torque mind you...

...oh but wait, manual transmissions are no longer mandatory inclusions in modern sporting automobiles. [:sigh:]

yeah...you know how much trouble audi had with the R10 because of the amount of torque....i wish there was some way to make diesels rev like normal petrol cars BTW.

That could be a good idea. It would distinguish the S and RS in a clearer way. People aren't too awared of the difference between S- and RS-models. S-models with sporty high-powered diesel engines and RS-models with the top petrol engines, that could work! :usa7uh:

Yea, I think it's a great combination! Imagine how much torque the car will have! I would really like to see it! :usa7uh:

And Andaluz, you look at things pretty old-fashioned, you will have to accept the fact Diesels and other technologies are future! Did you ever imagine Jaguar Estate, Hybrid S-Class, electric cars....etc.etc??! It's all part of the future that we have to accept! But nonetheless, I also still love cars that run on petrol! :usa7uh:

And the thing that irks me, is that the US most likely won't get any of Audi's diesels. <bleep> the EPA fascists, they can go to hell!

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
