S220CDI coming next year

I'm can barely stand the 520d (I4 520i never!) so you can propably figure what I think about this...

i think we are missing the amazing thing in this..a car the size of the S with 6.6 in fuel consumption..
and probably very eco friendly.. meaning that in the countrys that reward owning eco friendly cars this car will be even further attractive..

the interesting thing might not be this engine in the S..but eventually in the E and C.. in those segments it will do MB very well.. they will sell like hotcakes i belive..

I agree.

Thankfully MBUSA would never import such a car here! I'm more interested in a S420 Bluetec or whatever they hybrid S will have under the hood. Does anyone know?

M

I was thinking the same thing. The article doesn't mention it, but I think this will be a Europe-car-only. :eusa_thin

I wouldn't buy a S 220 CDI...a 4-cylinder engine in a S-Class??!!! :eusa_thin Before I would go for such a car, I would buy a Jaguar XJ6 2.7 diesel... :D

Yep, and mainly as fleet cars (taxis, hotel taxis, rent-a-car, protocol vehicles), but also some bought by Opas.

I can easily imagine 70-year old Hans and his Frau in such a car. Perfect car for rich German pensioners. ;):D

:usa7uh:

...and then, they will block the fast lane with their tank... :D Did anyone of you know, how fast this S-Class will be?! Nevertheless, a consumption of 6.6 litre / 100km is just great and amazing for such a heavy car...

My guess: Vmax= 189km/h, 0-100km/h in 14.9sec

:D;) j/k

Or someone who drives a lot and needs the mileage offered by the S220 CDI. I still think this is a bit low. The S320 CDI is fuel efficient enough. They should combine the 3.0 V6 CDI with an electric engine to make a "proper" hybrid S-Class.

My bro's 92 hp Suzuki Swift needs 6,5 l/100 km avg. So this 6,6 l will be a good joke :D

You may not be comparing apples to apples here. The motocycle's motor is petrol, and very high revving.

Despite this, however, 6.6L/100kms is still an exceptional figure, and possibly a bit too optimistic. When I drove a 200D 1992 124 E Class, the best observed economy was 5L/100km, but the car was much lighter. The S220 is still bound to surpass 4300 pounds.

My bad, I dont know what was I thinking... I thought youo were talking about a fast bike, shows how much I know about either bikes or suzuki cars in your market.

Is this engine petrol or diesel? That has a lot to do with the volume of fuel being consumed.

Petrol 1.6L if I'm not wrong. :usa7uh:

Next year, Mercedes is going to introduce a four cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine in S-class. The 2.2 litre engine has 204hp and shall only have a consumtion of 6.6 l/100km in EU combined cycle. Article in german:
People, there is a trend in the auto industry these days and it's called downsizing.

First of all, 204hp is well enough for most people. It's not even too far from todays 320 CDI and it's hp's!!

I am very pleased to hear this car coming out. Why? Well you get a big, high-tech, comfortable and fuel-efficient car (=environmentally friendly). You guys need to stop wanking after the 65 AMG. What people think about the S (or even MB) is not performance. It's comfort and high-tech. This car is all about it.
