S-Class S-Class Before and After Facelift ...

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized top-of-the-line luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. Officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, it has remained in use ever since.
GBOY, if what you are gonna miss is the turbo pushing, you can order a new W221 with the 450 hp V8 TT avalable this year on the S-Class.

Where did you get the 450hp figure from?

jesmb said a few months ago 450 hp and 435 hp, the two numers have been said for a while. I think thery are realistic.

I'd go with 435, but 450hp would be astounding...but I doubt that.

I don't: the BMW 4.4 TT V8 with M sportpack already packs 450 hp in the X6, and the F10 is bound to follow. Mercedes usually has more power than BMW, so....

We'll see. I just can't imagine a S550/550 with that much power. Then again the S63 -> S55 transformation will carry 570hp or so it is rumored. Question is what will happen to the S600 and S65 AMG?

Call me crazy, but could the S65 be phased out? As much as I'd like to see the 65 engine stay in the S, we haven't heard any news about this lately. And, the S600 may get a power boost, but I'm thinking that it would only be around 540-550 HP, less than the AMG.

Just a guess as what could happen.

So to update, I took the S in to be checked out ... (RE: Leakage due to frigid temps) and I was told there is nothing wrong, just a a built-in safety feature for the anti freeze and windshield wiper fluids which enables the exposed tubes to expand and spill excess fluid when it freezes rather than going bust? Reseals when car warms up?
That's their story and they are sticking to it.
Anyone?

Looks like washer fluid to me, if they still work I wouldn't worry about it.

My W220 did that.. drop out exess fluid and vent..
I think you are safe..

It appeared to be the hose leading to the headlamp washers. I was fine until I got the message Antifreeze was low. That's when i took it in. If it weren't under warranty I am sure they would have 'fixed something'

Textbook example. This type of engineering that Mercedes does is what used to pull them down in the quality surveys because people would report things like this as a problem. Mercedes cut down heavily on things like this so they wouldn't have so many "problems" reported. So interesting the little engineering details on a Benz. I'm sure other cars have this feature or something similar, but it seems that only Mercedes would get knocked in the surveys for it. Not any more, thankfully. I'm glad this wasn't a real problem GBOY. Where is the Bentley now?

I still have it for another week or so. Will deliver it next week. Dude still hasn't even seen it yet. Trusted lil bro with all that $$$ and decision making.
Only the SL fits the left side cos my bike is in the way so my S is out in the cold for the 1st time which is why it was crying ... LOL.

Must be nice to have several luxury cars....ahh...the life.

M

I only bought 1 new, the S550 which I had to have. Everything else is used. Not as expensive as it looks. I'm a regular joe who just loves nice cars :)

Very nice. :y

O/T, but one thing that's odd to me with the S-Classes, and what I noticed from that pic, is that plastic-y, "un-S-Class" type material they use for the mesh on the AMG bumpers. On my car the mesh is all genuine gloss black metal, and the holes around the lights are all real (open). I know M-B has been pulling some punches in some "small" certain areas with newer cars for cost savings or whatever, but anyone know if there's a reason why the holes are filled in the mesh around the foglights? Like for added aerodynamics or something?
