S-Class S-Class Before and After Facelift ...

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized top-of-the-line luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. Officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, it has remained in use ever since.
I agere, but the AMG-package is not at all as needed on the S-class as it is on the CL-class.

I agree, IMO CL looks so bad and anonymous without the AMG Pack.

The AMG pack front of the W211 F.L looks amazing. Much better than the AMG bumper on th pre-F.L. The formers wraps around the sides of the front too much, I like how the F.L's brings the outside lines and angles them more straightly and downward, if that makes sense. Much more aggressive, without losing any sense of class.

^^ Front's huge improvement ... definitely, but not the rear lights ... More Pics :)

Anyone else noticed the new mirrors on the CL next to the SL? I thought they'd reserve it for the facelift, but I guess they couldn't wait.

Anyway, I saw my first S-Class FL on the road the other day, but I didn't recognize it until I saw the tail lights :D. I thought the LEDs act as DRL? The S550 I seen didn't have them on and I guess that's why I didn't recognize it.

You have the option of turning DRL on or off so I guess they had it off.
I'll see if I have a closer pic of that CL.

So wait, all these Benzes with LEDs no longer have fog light capability or do the LEDs act in the same manner?

I just checked MBUSA and that's a 2010 CL with the new mirrors. I guess they all have them now, including the C.

So any mods in the future GBoy? You seem to like the headlights, but not the tails and I agree with you.

Have you thought of getting the AMG exhausts? Today I spotted an S550 with the 63's exhaust and this guy did a great job. He must have replaced the bumper or just that black plastic part for the four exhausts to fit. It was a really nice mod and he didn't slap an S63 badge to pose, but he kept the S550 badge and just added the AMG badge. I wanted to snap a pic, but I didn't want to attract his attention :D.

I think there are two modes to the LEDs. When the fog function is on, the LEDs are on normally, but when the DRL is on, the LEDs shine brighter. Or it could be the other way around .

What I wanna know is why they (LEDs) seem to turn off when making a turn? I've noticed the new Audis do it when the turn signal is on. I have yet to see an E with LEDs to see if it does that too, but I think Wimmer had a shot of an E-Class doing this.

FYI, adding an AMG badge on the trunk of any non-AMG car is still major posing. ;)

Lol, true. The average person wouldn't know the difference at all. I've seen dorkuses in stock W204 plain-jane C300's (obviously with the AMG Pack, as that's the common look for the car) with an "AMG" badge on the trunk, I also saw a fellow white one next to me last week when I had a C Loaner with "6.3L V8" badges on the SIDE.... It was a stock C300.... Made me ashamed to be next to him in the same car.

^Thanks! :usa7uh:

I actually saw a guess with a W220 with W221 rear lights. Those body stripes were so nice and had a sporty hint to them. Still like the new ones though. Either way the S-class prefacelift or facelift looks good.

Was it black? Cos I may have seen a black one. In fact he pulled up next to me to say he's hoping to upgrade to a W221 soon. It was not bad looking at all to be fair :usa7uh:

Now that we've had time to digest the facelift I can firmly say that I love the W221 in general and even more so after the facelift. The car is as perfect as an S-Class has been since the W126. Quality, looks, performane everything. No cheap build like the W220, not a hulking (but well built) monster like the W140. Its just right. I want one. Rarely do I like the sedan more than the coupe, but I'm tired of waiting for the coupe to show up so for the moment......the big Benz for choice is the S sedan...the W-2-2-1. It looks best in White by the way...... Mercedes has some big tires to fill with the next one.

Definitely the best and yes, the facelift is even better (what did we expect from MB). Absolutely blows the W220 AWAY inside and out!

Agreed. Since I'm so very picky, there have always been a few "fussy" areas of the W221 that kept it from 100% perfect to me and in a perfect world I'd wish a few things were slightly changed to please my personal tastes better, but I just really love the car and think it is truly as perfect as they've gotten it since the W126. The W222 will have big shoes to fill indeed.

The W220 was my favorite car when it was new, it was such a "dream car" to me that when I finally could afford some nice cars, I bought one, after the W221 was out. However it was always the W211 which to me made it (W220) look out-done and out-classed IMO, as it followed the same design language, but refined the look better, and has a more elegant interior. When the W221 came out, I think it just further helped the desirability of the W220 go down further. I still gawk at a super clean AMG Pack W220 and how slick and clean it looks though.

The W221 is the only car out there that has me constantly lusting after it enough to seriously consider trading my W211 in on one. I love my W211, and feel like the only true upgrade to me out right now, in terms of a good Luxury Sedan, is a W221. I go back and forth as to whether it offers me enough to justify the price difference, and whether I need the size, but it just teases and taunts me! Drives me crazy. I've always been an "S-Class" guy at heart, I love many Benzes, but to me, to truly experience what the brand can do, you have to go Flagship.

With M-B's newest car ALL getting downgraded materials for interiors to me it seems, and all getting a bit harder and less "fancy" inside IMO, the W221 shows M-B can still put out a world class, very attention-to-detail in terms of materials, oriented interior. It's actually their best yet in that regard IMO.

^ My sentiments almost to the T. I had a W220 Sport but had to have the W221 ... I got tired of gawking and took the plunge. Absolutely adore it!

Had my first issue this week though, i have to take her in for service tomorrow. Left it outside in the sub freezing cold for the 1st time to accommodate the Bentley and some tubes froze :(

But every time I see it, I feel like I just got it :t-drive:

The Bentley is actually about a foot longer and a bit wider. I have to deliver it next week to it's new owner who hasn't even seen it yet. i'll miss the sound of that Turbo kicking in ... out of this world.:D
