Even Britain suspended elections during WWII. If its an existential war, an election is meaningless, because if you lose the war you'll never have another meaningful vote ever again anyway.
As regards free and fair elections, you can't have those under threat of bombs and annexation, nor can soldiers guarding the front lines vote. It's literally impossible to hold a free and fair election under the current conditions, especially when part of the country is under occupation and can't vote anyway.
It's beginning to look like a fifth column has taken over America. And talk about poltical Schizophrenia.
