Z-car [Rumors] Nissan Z (2020+)

The Nissan Z-series is a model series of sports cars manufactured by Nissan since 1969. The original Z was first sold on October of 1969 in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z at Nissan Exhibition dealerships that previously sold the Nissan Bluebird. It was initially marketed as the Datsun 240Z for international customers. The most recent is simply known as the Nissan Z, in production since 2022.

The next-gen Z sports car could move to a Mercedes platform.

The Nissan 370Z is now nearly a decade old and is clearly showing its age. Slow sales are not helping either, so hopefully the Japanese automaker will finally introduce a successor soon. Different reports claim a new Z sports car is scheduled to arrive before the decade’s end, but nothing is really confirmed at the moment.

We tasked our talented artists to picture a possible look for a future successor of the 370Z and the result is this stunning sports coupe. It retains the basic proportions of the model that’s on sale today, but adds a number of aggressive elements, like the V-shaped fascia, muscular fenders, aggressively sloping roofline, and wide side sills.

According to the latest rumors, the next Z car could actually be based on a Mercedes-Benz platform. The architecture could also bring a number of Mercedes-sourced engines, including a 2.0-liter turbo and a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 with as much as 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts). The engine lineup will be shared with the next-generation Infiniti Q60.

A more powerful Nismo version is also being considered for 2021, if we are to believe reports in British media, and it could get an all-wheel drive and 475 hp (354 kW). A hybrid powertrain could also be in the cards.

It is believed a new Z car will debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen prototypes out testing and Nissan remains pretty tight lipped so far about the sports car’s future. Apparently, a next-gen model has a low priority within the company, but the good news is it should actually happen in a couple of years’ time.

Through April this year, Nissan has delivered only 1,243 examples of the 370Z. Last year a total of 4,614 370Zs have been sold compared to 10,215 in 2010.

Damn, didn't know Nissan Micra has grown up so much.

All jokes aside, it's about damn time, this replacement should have come out 5 years ago.

Relly ugly, looks like one of these awful japanese microcars...
I always liked the 350Z and 370Z, nice design and wonderful engine sound. Tried a 350Z once, loved it.
Does someone know how many 370Z sold compared to 350Z? Have the feeling that the 370Z never was at the level of the 350Z.

Ah-So to be developed and shared with Mercedes-Benz for economies of scale and cost effective development.

Like BMW and Toyota?

All we need is a new Honda Prelude and a Mazda RX7 Coupe and we have a revival going on.

I know that's a render that doesn't look based on anything realistic, but it actually made me angry with its fugliness.

All we need is a new Honda Prelude and a Mazda RX7 Coupe and we have a revival going on.

Replace "Prelude" with S2000, and now you're cookin'!

Nissan trademarks suggest new company logo and Z sports car

Global trademark filings suggest Nissan could rebrand the company logo, as well as that of the 370Z replacement.
The Nissan brand will receive a new logo, if recent trademark filings are any indication. Registered in Great Britain, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina, the new logo is more minimalist, doing away with the existing corporate logo’s simulated chrome finish and three-dimensional appearance.

Instead, the supposed new Nissan logo will be two-dimensional and monochromatic, with a sans-serif font for the company name surrounded on top and bottom by arcs with delicate points. The new logo retains the centre marquee and circular appearance, but it’s a clear evolution from the current, bulkier badge. It recalls efforts made by BMW and other automakers to modernise their image using simpler, cleaner forms – though we think the Nissan graphic is better executed than that of the Bimmer.

We actually got an initial look at the new logo when the Nissan Ariya concept took a bow at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The illumination on the electric crossover’s badge matches the new logo filings almost exactly, leading us to believe this will be Nissan’s new corporate logo, implemented sometime soon.

The next-generation Nissan Z is also likely to receive new branding as well, according to trademark filings in Canada and New Zealand. However, unlike the modern Nissan logo, the Z will apparently look back in history for its badging. Unlike the samurai-chic Z-slash that currently resides on the sports car, the new logo will feature a serif-font “Z” with a flourish in the middle, almost identical to the badge on the original 1971 240Z.

We sincerely hope the new logo also means the Z will feature retro styling. The current car’s boomerang-shaped lighting elements and ultra-wide rear hips looked dated when they were new, and a return to simpler, purer forms would be much appreciated in the new Z.

The next-generation Nissan sports car might make its first debut (wearing both new badges) within a year or two, although hopefully sooner.

Excellent news. While Nissan are at it, they should revamp the GTR and bring its starting price back down to sensible levels.

Madlads are actually doing it! I thought they wanted to cancel everything non- SUV and produce 1000 different SUVs.

So happy for new Z. Other than Z and GTR all other Nissan's are rubbish (well, the Q50, Q60 and Patrol Y61 and Y62 are nice). They killed the FX, best CUV ever. At least the Z is coming.

Their teaser video has so many suvs, it is quite sad.

Will be be powered by the engine in the GT-R in addition to an emission friendly 4 cylinder engine?

It was time, the previous one is (with small adjustments) for too long, there is a wink to the original 280 as I see
