5 Series [Rumors] Any word on details of 2020 5er LCI?

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

Are the updates recently released on the 7er likely to make their way onto the 5er? In particular, I was wondering if the newer, larger kidney grille is expected?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

I hope they DON'T, only as far as oversized grille is concerned... That would look totally out of place and FUGLY!
To each his own, my friend. I absolutely love the huge grille. Been waiting forever for BMW to do that and am very happy that they finally have.

It would nice to see the huge grille of the 7 on the 5 LCI. But I assume this will not happen because this huge grille will be exclusive for the 7 and X7.

Yes. They tell me that the large grille is a call sign for the luxury segment "Bavarische Motoren Werke" models.
I do not think the 5er will get such enhancement. It will have to remain average.:giggle::hilarious:

...Except the next 4er grille is going the same route, and so are the future BMWi models according to the latest concept-cars

I think with the advent of THE 8. I expect The 4er will move to straddle the equator between the current 4er and the recently dismissed 6er.
Kind of like the Mercedes E-Klasse Coupe.

The 5 series now in my opinion is the weakest looking BMW saloon it desperately needs new headlights and a revised grill and heavily revised tail lights to make it look bang up to date and a better looking opponent for its rivals.

It still looks better than its rivals, but its looks are behind those of the other BMWs.

Agreed. I saw a new one on the floor at JSN Motors yesterday and it is a complete snooze-fest compared to the new 3er. Headlights, grille and interior all feel heavily dated. I’m hopeful for an interesting LCI!

The LCI will encompass new, 3 dimensional taillamps...modified headlamps...modified air-breathers...slightly modified grill and valances...new rim options and paint colors, I reckon. Interior update as well.

Nope. You definitely forgot the 1er Sedan. ;)

Headlights will get new graphics (hexagonal angel eyes, new projectors etc), grille will be slightly changed to be more in line with other newer models, bumpers (incl front air intake) will be redesigned ... Tail lights - as far as I know the shape of the cluster will stay the same but graphics will be changed to look more 3D & some red cluster parts will be darkened. Inside some trim upgrade + Live Cockpit with iDrive7. There will be no radical changes on 5er or 6er GT. 7er was an exemption - to make it more in line with THE models.

Yet mind the headlight & tail light graphics change + new grille & bumpers make 5er LCI very fresh. It's all about the details!

The 5-Series is IMO the most accomplished and all rounder sedan that money can buy right now. It ticks all boxes in handling, quality, comfort, tech and practicality.

My only wish is that the design wasn’t such a cautious evolution. From a distance it looks too similar to the F10 with the rear being the weakest one of any BMW. In SE spec it looks forgettable.

The tail lights looked old from day one and very out of sync with those seen on the new 3-Series, X2, X4, Z4, 8-Series and 7-Series.
