2030 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W224. What we know so far:

Projected to arrive in 2030, following the recent mid-cycle facelift for the current model.
The future concept Vision Iconic two-door coupe is expected to influence the W224's design as multiple reports online state. So, it may end up featuring that massive "Iconic Grille" and narrow headlights. Multiple online AI generated images are portraying the next S-Class as the sedan version of this concept, or one with slight variations following the same design trends.

AI searches online state from different sources that: "it is anticipated to use an evolution of the MRA II platform and feature an electrified engine range, including mild hybrids and plug-in hybrids".
So both internal combustion (ICE) and battery-electric (EV) versions under a single, unified S-Class nameplate is expected.

Here's the hint: Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius confirmed that the separate "EQS" branding for its electric flagship will be phased out. The future lineup will consist of:
  • One Body Style: Both the gas-powered and electric versions will share nearly identical exterior and interior designs, moving away from the distinctive "jelly bean" look of the current EQS.
  • Two Different Platforms: To avoid compromising interior space or performance, the two variants will ride on different underpinnings:
    • ICE/Hybrid models: Will use an evolution of the current MRA II platform.
    • Electric models: Will sit on a dedicated, high-tech EV architecture, likely the MB.EA Large platform.
Plans may change a bit, but this is where it stands as of 2026.

It’s gonna be a long 4 years and a really long thread. All I can is that I expect a stunner in every way possible. The S-Class’ survival depends on this. Otherwise the true top Mercedes will be a SUV.

This thread is going to be epic.
Can't wait to see what they come up with.

But starting this off with Gorden wearing a condom? Uugghgh
LOL, it is one additional pic from the Vision Iconic thread. We can remove it :D

Especially as the Mopf 223 is really disappointing.

I’m confident Mercedes is gonna knock this out the park because Mercedes usually takes feedback and applies it relatively well. And with a car this important, they don’t have a choice. Competition is dropping left and right and Mercedes needs to show again why they own this segment. Is the W223 going to be looked at as the worst S-Class?

No. The W220 will be. Huge embarrassment quality wise. Yes I know it was really pretty and drive sweetly.

The W223 was a step backwards after the W222. The W224 absolutely cannot afford to make the same mistake. Above all else, they need to get rid of that hideous piano-black plastic piece in the interior. The S-Class is a model where cost-cutting should never be allowed to touch anything important. The W224 should be damn near perfect with a combination of real wood, aluminium, and leather.

I really hope the new design team delivers something great and completely abandons Gordon’s nonsense.

All they have to do is go back to their roots and have the right people in place who truly understand this. Simple enough, but far from easy to execute.

I would not call the W223 a step back compared to the W222 on the design front. The designer directions are intended to be different to begin with. (The W223 is not a rehash of the W222.) The W223 was minimized, modernized, and a bit more digital and trendy compared to the "old-world" Baroque-type themes of the W222.
The W224 might appear as a dark character with deep Gothic themes following the Vision Iconic. Totally different from the W222 or W223.
It will be interesting to see how its Gothic themes are translated to the interior.
Mercedes might be pulling cards from BMW with this S-Class having its own design details that are unique or slightly different from the rest of the lineup to follow. Whatever the case, the W224 needs to stand out. I believe it will.
