Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

I still prefer the Azure as an overall droptop. This Drophead though...looks good :usa7uh:

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

These pictures are great! Are there any more maybe that show the car outside? Or maybe some in other colours? Not sure whether this colour and the bonnet would look better in daylight...

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

I heared somewhere that the wood is also actually alluminium, made to look like wood. Eni, is that the case?

Looks majestic btw, loving it. Would chose a darker blue though

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

Oh yeah! I`m likeing this alot! it looks like a million bucks, wheels and all! very rich and elegant, (but hardly understated). Now, will Rolls Royce roll out the red carpet for the coupe.:eusa_pray

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

Small article from a blog, originally from AutoWeek.nl

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/27/detroit-preview-rolls-royce-cabriolet/

"Rolls-Royce is set to take the wraps off a new convertible at the Detroit Motor Show less than two weeks from now, and have leaked a few photos to get our Spirits of Ecstasy flying. Although the name is not yet officially known, most insiders predict a revival of the Corniche nameplate for this grand cabriolet that picks up where the show-stopping 100EX concept car left off in 2004.

As can be seen from the press photos, some of the highly unique features from the show car have made it into the pre-production version. One of the most intriguing is the classic speedboat-style teak boot-lid under which the power soft-top will stow. The sinister LED headlights have also carried through, as has the stunning brushed-aluminum hood section (as unlikely as it was predicted that it would make it to production). The suicide doors are also there, granting elegant access to the world-class cabin with what looks like ample room, front and back. The trunk also has a unique split opening, one section folding down like a tailgate and another up like a conventional trunk lid.

Aside from the images, which you can check out after the jump, no details were released, but we can reasonably expect it will carry the 6.75-liter V12 and six-speed auto-box from its sister saloon the Phantom."

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

If I had one of these on order I would probably cancel my order and call my local Bentley dealer for an Azure. I'm really dissapointed. This car doesn't look nearly as aggressive as the concept. More over I'm not diggin the head lights, the Phantom has a much nicer looking front. To be honest I was expecting a coupe with killer looks and this doesn't do it for me. I prefer by far the Azure.

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

True. I thought they should have given the drophead other tail lights or a completley different rear becasue does ones aren't looking as good as they do on the Phantom. Then again mybe we are a bit quick to judge. As with any car this one will probably look damn good in black with an alu bonnet.

I agree totally. Especially of the front - what happened to that rammer of a front that had such an intimidating stance? This one has grilles like a moustache and the lights look way too small.

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

OK. Now I can finally reveal my soul, and not to be killed for that.

The car is officially named (as I already subtly hinted above):

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe :usa7uh:

A hardtop version will be named RR Phantom Coupe. Coming in approx. 1.5 year.

Corniche & Camargue will be used for a baby RR convertible & coupe. Along with Silver Shadow (Spur, Cloud, Ghost, Wright) - which will be a sedan.

Wait, wait here. Am I reading it right, that there will be a baby RR coupe and convertible? What type of cars will they be, more driver oriented RRs, will whey be based on the sma platform as the new 7er? More information please. :)

The Bentley resemblence:eusa_doh:

I hope you are being sarcastic.

Because till RR / Bentley separation in 2003, Bentley was just a RR with a slightly different face - Bentley being a sporty alter ego of RR.

So, Arnage (on which Azure is based) is a carbon copy of RR Silver Seraph. That's why RR Phantom Drophead Coupe is in some design cues almost identical to Azure. Because Azure / Arnage is actaully a re-badged RR!

New Bentley models now follow their own design path, moving away from classic RR styling cues. I'm sure next Arnage / Azure line will be quite different from RR Phantom line.

But right now Arnage / Azure = old RR (Silver Seraph).

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

^^
Very correct Eni. The RR Silver Seraph and Bentley Arnage are a case of "same shit, different toilet". Both cars are more of less clones.

2001 Arnage:

Yes. Modified 7er platform will be a base for a future baby RR line. Right now only sedan is confirmed (expect a 102EX concept sometimes in 2007! eg. Frankfurt or LA ;)), but coupe & cabrio derivate are also expected to get a green light in the next months - for a approx. 2011-13 launch.

Baby line will be a modern interpretation of RR brand - opposite of classic Phantom line. A young RR. A RR re-born. Expect more aggressive & sporty styling (steeper nose, smaller grille, lower greenhouse etc), more hi-tech (from F01 7er), less traditional approach. Yet still a lot of RR design trademarks: greek temple grille, Emily, suicide doors, two-tone exterior, waftability line, significant RR "swoosh" side lines, lots of wood & chrome etc. Note: Baby line will still be more expensive than Bentley Continental line!

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

I'm not too fond of the front. Everything else is good, but that front is bugging me for some reason.

I'm expecting the baby Rolls to have a 200k sticker price like the Arnage. A 102EX concept in 2007:icondrool :icondrool :icondrool :icondrool :icondrool
I'm really curious to see what BMW have in mind for the baby rolls. They have done a fantastic job with the Phantom which doesn't have any German ques at all. I'm a sucker for British cars and it worries me that all the British companies are in hands of non British owner, but so far so good.:usa7uh:

Re: Rolls Royce Drophead convertible

Eni,

Could you upload the PDF file for this car when it becomes available??? Thanks!!!

I don't digg these official pictures at all. I would have wanted to see the car photographed in Monaco or in any playboy city. THis combo would probably work for the car:

Thank you for the information Tine ...it is much appreciated.

I was surprized when Bentley based the new Azure on the Arnage because the previous Corniche was also based on the same (Silver Seraph) body. The Azure is a completely redesigned car though, and is a much more successful adaption I think.

2000 Rolls-Royce Corniche

You are right, Bentley design is definately moving away from Rolls-Royce as much as it can.
