Ghost Rolls-Royce May Revive Camargue And Corniche Names For New Ghost Family

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a full-sized luxury car manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The "Ghost" nameplate, is named in honour of the Silver Ghost, a car first produced in 1906. The production model was officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Ghost Extended Wheelbase was introduced in 2011. During development, the Ghost was known as the "RR04". It was designed as a smaller, "more measured, more realistic car" than the Phantom, aiming for a lower price category for Rolls-Royce models.

Just as the Phantom has its Coupe and Drophead convertible variants, the new 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost sedan is expected to spawn its own two-door variants. The legacy started with cars like the Carmargue and Corniche, both of which were based on the Silver Shadow, which itself is the forebear to the new Ghost.

The car’s lead exterior designer, Andreas Thurner, has previously revealed that there would be a family of models based on the Ghost platform and now a report is claiming that there will be concept versions of the new additions, or as Rolls-Royce likes to call them, “Experimental Cars.”

Both a coupe and convertible based on the Ghost are due to hit the streets in the next couple of years but their development is not guaranteed. Rolls-Royce is in fact building the concepts to help gauge customer demand.

Furthermore, according to Rolls-Royce CEO Ian Robertson, the Ghost name may not even make it on the new cars suggesting that the automaker may be planning to revive names like Carmargue for the coupe and Corniche for the convertible.

Other models possibly in the pipeline include a long-wheelbase Ghost as well as a gasoline-electric hybrid version.

The Ghost's proportions and design merge into a very good looking DropHead Coupe it is not as long and the rear is nicely intergrated especially when it has to remain flat at the rear deck and not be a Ghost with the roof chopped off. As you will see soon enough.

There are some minor detail changes to differentate it from the Ghost Referred to internally as the "Twin Prince's"
(MINI's Coupe and Roadster Twins are referred to as "Twin Bitches" )
Rolls-Royce are hoping the Ghost and it's bretheren will be as equally popular as the Phantom series to which end some customers already own the three Phantom models with some owning the Phantom Long Wheelbase model aswell.

Report: Rolls-Royce Ghost to spawn coupe, convertible, long-wheelbase versions

Autoblog:

Rolls-Royce introduced the Ghost sedan to the world a scant six months ago, but there's already talk about expanding the model range beyond the traditional four-door variant. Autocar reports that sources have revealed plans to create coupe, convertible, and even long-wheelbase versions of the new Ghost, which we will likely see in the form of concept cars over the next few years.

Unlike the Phantom family, which includes both short- and long-wheelbase sedans, coupe, and convertible Drophead Coupé, Rolls-Royce won't necessarily use the Ghost name for all of the new vehicles that could be spawned off of the sedan's platform. Yes, it would be a relatively smart move to keep all of these new products branded under the Ghost family, but it means that well-received monikers like Corniche could be reborn.

We'll be keeping our eyes pealed for new Rolls-Royce concepts in the not-so-distant future, so stay tuned for more details as they arise.

The Coupe version of the Ghost could really be something, unlike the Coupe version of the Phantom.

Yes, sir. The Phantom is just too grand for a proper coupé. The Ghost dimensions are much better for a coupé.

Isn't it Camargue instead of CARmargue?

In any event, I'm excited to see a modern interpretation of the Camargue, which was such a cool 1970s Roller, slanted grille and all!

Correct! Thanks for catching that!

The Rolls-Royce Camargue is a two-door coupé introduced by Rolls-Royce Motors in March 1975. The Camargue's body, built in London by their coachbuilding division Mulliner Park Ward, was designed by automotive designer Paolo Martin[1][2][3] at Pininfarina — the Camargue was Rolls-Royce's first post-war production model not to be designed in-house.

Corniche is on the way ... Coming soon. First as a concept. Geneva 2012, I guess.

YES!!!! Amazing, Corniche has so much panache. Being someone who has followed RR's since I was a newborn, especially the Corniche, I find the Drophead to be a tacky and rather unfortunate aesthetic offering. Can't wait to see what they do with the Corniche.

^there's nothing tacky about that. I sat in one couple of years, and I felt like a king.

The Ghost in couple and convertible form is going to look good.

It looks good there, but something about the Drophead isn't very classy to me, and the whole split A-Pillar area and suicide door just doesn't look sexy to me, frankly IMO it's not befitting of the Rolls timeline. I mostly dig the Ghost, albeit a bit mundane for what it is. Sitting inside any of these cars will surely make one feel like a King, no doubt about that.

Yes there will be something very special for Geneva 2012 from Rolls-Royce. Look out for the spy photographs very, very soon.
The changes are very much in keeping with the design language of the Ghost. Familiar, but with a modern twist to give it a different identity.

If you think the Ghost is beautiful then 201EX will captivate you even more. You cannot keep your eyes off her....

Beside "Corniche" BMW AG also (re)registered the trademarks "Wraith" and "Shadow" just recently, but not the "Camargue" though.
