RIP Marco Simonchelli aka Sideshow Bob - MotoGP Death

I occasionally watch motor GP and today I was horrified by the death of a very skilled young driver. Marco Simonchelli. He did at the Spegan circuit in a crash today. It was a horrid freak accident during which his helmet even came off. Here's a video of the crash.

Holy shit. That's horrible. RIP and my condolences and sympathies with the family.

The worst part is that the guys who crashed into him will be scarred for life mentally. Even thought this is out of their control a part of them will blame themselves for it. Horrible and I hope these guys take some time off and see a psychiatrist.

This is obviously a MotoGP crash of its worst kind. The fact that drivers are not fastened into a monocoque makes them susceptible to getting run over by a fellow driver. In the case of Simonchelli that weakness got the worst of him - his head became victim of a fast travelling motorcycle. What baffles me is that the helmet came off. There will surely be an investigation into why this happened. Was his helmet fitting loose or was the impact of the collision severe??

RIP Simonchelli. This is just shocking news, especially when we saw him alive and well just last week celebrating on the podium, and now he has passed away so suddenly and in such painful way. I also feel sorry for both Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi as well, they were involved in this absolutely unavoidable accident. It is going to be a very tough for them to recover from this mentally.

Absolutely. In F1 they are discussing canopies. That would obviously not work well for motor GP but a HANS-like device should be in order for keeping helmets in place during accidents. Helmets are designedmtomprotectnyour head but if they fall off then what are they there for?

Can't believe they just left him there, nothing they could do to avoid him or afterwards but still, that's just not right!
Am I the only one who'd stop for a dead animal let alone a person, fellow racer or even worse a mate?
