612 Scaglietti [2004-2011] Report: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Shooting Brake Concept Headed To Geneva

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (Type F137) is an executive 2+2 coupé grand tourer made by Ferrari between 2004 and 2011. It was designed to replace the smaller 456; its larger size makes it a true 4-seater with adequate space in the rear seats for adults.

Last month news broke that Ferrari was planning something “very different” for March’s 2011 Geneva Motor Show, a relatively ambiguous description laid out by company boss Luca de Montezemolo.

While initial speculation had pegged it as being the replacement for the 612 Scaglietti, complete with Ferrari’s latest HY-KERS hybrid technology, a new report suggests that it could be something else entirely.

An inside source has revealed to AutoExpress that Ferrari will unveil a shooting brake concept based on the current 612 Scaglietti (pictured). The unveiling will have a two-pronged effect; to mark the end of production of the 612 and to see how far Ferrari can stretch its brand away from its traditional supercars.

“We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV,” the source explained. “But we would like to find out what we can put the marque’s DNA into and still have it accepted as a Ferrari.”

The shooting brake is essentially a hatchback-based coupe. The design offers greater versatility for low slung two-doors and would make the four-seater 612 Scaglietti the most practical Ferrari yet. Perhaps Ferrari will be testing the waters with the design, providing a glimpse of a possible design direction for the 612’s replacement and a solution for customers demanding a more practical supercar.

Better news from Pagani and Lamborghini for sure. I never really liked those shooting brakes concepts, especially on a ferrari .

Is Ferrari going to give us something similar to the 250GTO Breadvan?

I also never liked shooting brakes derived from coupes.
