Z Series Report: BMW Working On Mid-Engined Z10 Sports Car

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
Hey guys, I think we should have a discussion on if BMW needs a super car or not? Never seen that around here.

Hehe, always nice with a fresh topic!

Now we have two midengined concepts within about a year... on the other hand, the message regarding this type of vehicle is rather clear - not going to happen.

Why not?. If you complete the chasis of the VED Concept the overall shape could be the same for the production model. I´m talking about the shape, of course some things must be changed.

Well, I think if you made the VED "production ready" you would pretty much have that rendering.

I don't think that bmw need a supercar as a halo car. I don't think they need a halo car at all, since all of their cars expect for the e90 are very distinctive.

BMW need what we would buy. So the question is what would be more exciting for each and every one of you an R8 rival that even if you can afford it is a car that is overpriced (my definition of overpriced is anything more expensive than a 911) or an 8 cylinder M F20 for half the price of the supercar?

Easily the 1-series CSL/M-car... but my point is that now that BMW has shown two midengined concepts in a year, expectations for something real have rised.

The car that will proceed will be a Front engined Coupe and Roadster based on an extended 3er modular platform. BMW need the car to be 50/50 in weight distribution. It will not be an extreme performance car but will be powerful and sustainable at the same time.

It's a GT 2 seater car and will take it's ideas from the BMW H2H Racer , It wont be big and heavy, it's all about doing a flagship sports car from a different perspective from which others do.

Vision Efficient Dynamics is an interpretation to another BMW.

I think those who were/are wishing for mid-engined car are in a fantasy world.

Incidentally whilst speaking to a fellow marketing man for Daimler this afternoon I learned more about the intentions for the SLS AMG.
Mercedes wanted something for more traditional sports car customers and less about a showcase for status. Apparently and I never knew this but when some SLR customers saw Paris Hilton with their SLR's and other forms of entertainment they returned them en masse.

Then I will have some news for you next week.
Coupe and Roadster.

Scott, Is this what you're talking about??? Or is BMW going to make TWO supercars (One ala H2H and one taking the VED approach) ???

Any more details on the product positioning, price ?
