GLA [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA (Gen II)

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Mercedes-Benz over two generations. It is essentially the SUV equivalent of the A-Class, and the smallest SUV marketed by the brand.

Looking good, however I would have expected to see CLA prototypes before the GLA..

Mercedes has almost certainly pulled forward GLA II. US dealers are crying out for crossover product. Sedans are dying:

Here in Australia, people can't get enough of them, there is a 8 month waiting list for these things.
That, and for a while MB were doing a special edition GLA180 at a 1/2 decent price too, that on Agility Finance was a nice little earner .

2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA spied

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA has been spied this week, despite the facelifted current-generation model debuting in Detroit only a week ago.

While this test mule looks very similar to the A-Class prototype that has been spotted over the past year, this vehicle is believed to be a GLA due to its higher ride height, chunkier wheel and tyre package along with what looks to be a slightly wider track.

Like the current generation, the new GLA should share its underpinnings with the A-Class and the family of models that use the same platform, including the next-gen CLA, B-Class, and rumoured GLB crossover.

In terms of powertrains, the GLA will also likely share most if not all of its engines with the A-Class range, which should include a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, including a hi-po AMG version that is reported to approach the 300kW mark.

Other possibilities are a plug-in hybrid variant along with an all-electric version.

Expect the new GLA to follow the next-generation A-Class, with a debut reported to occur sometime in 2019 – not as distant as it seems – though don’t be surprised if the new SUV is revealed sooner.

I think it's definitely a GLA anywyas a GLA is basically a raised A...
Hope the interior will.be of better quality and add some new features and technology.

I would say the current GLA has proved a very successful vehicle.

Mercedes retailers push for more trucks

Mercedes-Benz could increase vehicle sales in 2017, says the leader of the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Board. But getting more trucks to dealership lots will be a major requirement of any gains to be made.

"I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll have some incremental sales gain in 2017," said Ken Schnitzer, the dealer board chairman. "I'm not making any predictions."

But to help make an increase happen, dealers are pushing Mercedes-Benz to increase allocation of SUVs and crossovers to the U.S. in 2017. More trucks, combined with a better economy and a full year of the redesigned E-class sedan, should make the difference, said Schnitzer, chairman of Park Place Dealerships, based in Dallas. He owns four Park Place Motorcars Mercedes-Benz stores in Dallas, Grapevine, Fort Worth and Arlington.

Though it just regained the U.S. luxury sales crown in 2016, Mercedes posted a slight decrease in overall luxury sales last year. The brand's luxury sales fell 0.8 percent to 340,237 vehicles. The drop came after a long run of annual sales increases for the brand dating to the Great Recession.

Mercedes had a big swing in its truck and car sales last year. U.S. sales of the car lines dropped 11 percent, while sales of its SUVs and crossovers jumped 15 percent.

"We would have liked to have had a lot more SUVs to sell," Schnitzer said.

Mercedes did a "great job" in 2016 shifting output of cars to trucks and increasing allocation of SUVs to the U.S., Schnitzer said. But demand for SUVs is still outstripping supply, he said. The shortages are across the truck lineup, though Schnitzer called out the new GLC compact crossover as being a key need.

Dealers have asked for another increase in truck allocations in 2017.

"These vehicles have been well received all over the world, so we're hopeful they'll be able to meet some increased demands," Schnitzer said. "But we really won't know that until the first quarter."

I think the shooting brake would be more successful. The GLA is horrible on cargo space with the chopped off back end. The CLA has more boot space. Plus, it makes it appear low end. Obvious they aren't addressing this deficiency.

Noone in my circle who bought or thinks of buying a GLA cares about cargo space, interior space or materials' quality. All they care about is to drive an MB badged SAV, as opposed to the RAV-4 and CR-V that everyone and his mother drives.
