GLB [Renders] 2019 Mercedes GLB

The Mercedes-Benz GLB (model code X247) is a crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz. The GLB is positioned between the GLA and the larger GLC in size, however unlike these vehicles the GLB is equipped with optional third row seating due to better space distribution.
MB Passion posted their GLB rumors article, reminding us this alleged model is just a rumor, and MB has not mentioned a "mini-G" or some such model to date. However, they also speculate by 2019 a model with a designation of X247, thus based on a new 2018/2019 W247 B-Class, could make some sense, should MB decide to go ahead with such a model. :)

Mercedes has seen huge growth in its compact car sales, with over two million vehicles finding homes in the last five years. Over 60 per cent of GLAs sold are conquest sales from other brands, so Mercedes sees big potential for compact SUVs to bring even more new customers to its dealerships.

Sitting above the GLA, an all-new GLB is currently under development, intended as a more rugged and practical alternative to the BMW X1. It will be based on the
same MFA2 platform as the next A-Class and will follow that car into showrooms in 2019. To differentiate it from the GLA, it could also come with the option of an extended wheelbase, while the chunky styling – as illustrated by our exclusive image – will mark it out visually.

Even though the article says it's a G-Class, I am more than sure that this is the first scoop of a pre-production Mercedes-Benz GLB test vehicle. Looks fairly close to some of the renderings based on the Ener-G-Force concept.

I'm not convinced the toy like appearance of this vehicle is what the market wants. The first GLK which this mimics was hardly a huge success. Why can't they deliver a polished, sophisticated looking product in the same dimensions.

I actually disagree. The GLK, though not a huge sales success was because it wasn't a great product. Interior space and quality were not very good, and the ride was not good either. While the GLC is a great product, has a great ride, great interior, I find the design to be plain and have very little road presence. The facelifted GLK I think still has great presence on the road with the right wheels etc.

The GLB stands out, and that's what people driving a benz in that price range want. And it looks different and like the G, which everyone aspires to buy. To me the GLC on the road just looks like another Q5, and lack character. I like this GLB move by MB.

The GLK actually held its own from a sales perspective in the U.S. against the BMW X3. The Audi Q5 picked up and led the class towards the end of its lifecycle though.

The concept Ener-G-Force is one of the best rugged SUV design I have seen in recent times and GLB is inspired from it. If GLB is looking like this then I think this would be a bold step by Merc. The love & aspiration factor to G-class is so high that it has made lots of non Merc guys to think of owning one. With GLB Merc can divert this aspect into business to pull in fresh customers to the brand. As Mercedes management decided to continue the next gen G-Class with the same basic design the GLB will be a supportive product. More over the new Land Rover Defender which is expected to be out in 2019 is said to have a mini avatar which was showcased as DC100 concept. So GLB & DC100 will be two unique products with the basic DNA of two of the legendary off-road machines world has ever seen.

Another render and info from AMuS:
- starting 2018
- MFA2 platform (A-class)
- Front and AWD options
- 30k euro base

This looks great.
Ener-G-Force look alike is also ok.
However, I guess it will be like Ener-G-Force rather than GLC and others.
First because of concept which for sure they wasn't release just like that.
Second, they want to add one product just like GLK was, with strong chracter ( some people still miss GLK ).
And third, boxy shape is must have if you want smaller car/SUV to offer more space, just like Jeep Renegade for instance.

Mercedes Benz is developing a new baby SUV which is going to be placed GLA and GLC. Jager Andrii published a rendering of upcoming GLB crsoover based on G-Force concept. The GLB is basically new generation G Wagon but the profile is smaller compared to the orginal model. Mercedes is also working on new generation of G Wagon. Mercedes GLB is based on MFA2 platform which also underpin new generation of A Class, B Class and other models. Mercedes GLB is powered by 2.0 L diesel and petrol engines along with V6 engines also. Mercedes will officially reveal new GLB in 2019.

Damn!! Could this be the first beautiful small SUV of the market?

Sorry but this is fkng ugly. How can you like that rear, bottom is round like pear and than roof comes which is boxy. When you look it from front it is ok, but you cant put that much rounded headlighst on boxy design.

When I compare this with the fugly GLA or the egg-shaped Q3, I prefer this, tbh.

- Base will be the next gen GLA
- Look like a small G
- about 45,000 euro
- 7 seats
- biggest trunk in segment
- hybrid or EQ variant possible. 60 kWh with 150 kW engine, practical range 400 km
- GLB 63 AMG with 450 hp V6 (we think I4) hybrid

If it's based on the GLA, it won't receive a V6. High performance I4 will be the engine in the AMG 45 variant
