GLA (H247) [Renders] 2019 Mercedes CLA (gen II)

The Mercedes-Benz GLA (H247) is the second generation of the GLA subcompact crossover SUV range. Production: December 2019 Model years: 2020-
With the A-class sedan being added, i don't know why MB is adding this. It makes no sense. The CLA has been a complete failure in the US. They would be much better off to bring the sedan and the hatch to the US and drop the CLA.

Comparing the E and CLS doesn't equate. The CLS is a large, up market niche vehicle. The CLA is an attempted volume vehicle.

At what point did CLA sales die out?

A few years ago a dealership tried giving me a CLA loaner. First - I had trouble getting in. I guess they had shorter people in mind when it came to interior space.

Secondly - It’s a total POS from all standpoints. I don’t think even hardcore MB fans can refute that. You’re better off getting a Camry XLE or Accord Limited and getting a proper car for the price.

I'm with you all on the CLA not being a good car, but the CLA being a complete failure is just wrong. They delivered 20,699 units in the U.S. this past year. That's down from the 26k deliveries of a couple of years ago, but is still largely in line with the Audi A3 which sold 20,733 units this year.

He's a dealer. You can tell a lot about a product just by observing.

Observing his one dealer lot doesn't help much with determine sales across an entire country, hence my post. A failure from a product standpoint is something that anyone who has driven or read a CLA review can agree on. The next-gen can easily address the prime concerns and be successful, even if the vast majority of the sales come from the conventional sedan and CUV variants.

All I'll say I was shocked when I first rode in one and then when a friend bought one. It has NO MB DNA anywhere other than the way it looks. Absolutely NONE of the MB DNA is present in the way it rides and drives. It's terrible car. I don't see the new one being worlds better. Mercedes doesn't know how to do cheap well and combining that with FWD and it's destined to be crap IMO. At least the new one will have (in top spec) a great interior and the latest tech.

I've always thought the CLA's sales should have been much higher considering the price.

The sad thing about this is that the CLA doesn't need to drive or ride like a Mercedes, as long as it looks like one it is good enough. Here in Australia, the CLA is out selling the 3 series and the A4...

I trust the ride and refinement will be far more resolved with the second generation. We will know soon enough with the A-class launch imminent.

I am confident Mercedes has learnt it's lessons from the weaknesses of the current CLA and made substantial improvements to the new model, just like what bas been done with the new A-class. You can see it already in the shape of the car that it will be more practical with a bigger flatter boot and be more spacious. The ride and handling will be vastly improved as it will adopt the new improved A-class chassis.

The day it came out.
They hyped that car about 8 months before it launched and had all kinds of interest, only to have low production, failing to capitalize on the interest. Ulitmately the cars issue is what you've pointed out. Cramped and low quality, yet still more than larger and better equipped competitors.

Based on these pics, this one seems just as forced on the lines and proportions as the previous. A car with this short of a wheelbase does not suit the shallow greenhouse forced between the hood and boot, especially with the longer FWD overhang.
I can see the A-sedan doing well in the US and i think the A-hatch would also do well. In light of the A, this just seems unnecessary and shows mercedes out of touch.

Getting some real positive vibes from the next CLA, it already looks slightly more resolved than the current one, maybe due to it having bigger dimensions and a design theme like that of the CLS??, it will be interesting to see how it comes out plus how it will fare against the A Class saloon. .

To my surprise, the current CLA has become amazingly popular in my area.

Holy shite!!! It looks good even in camo. Looks grown, sexier. Get that ride and interior right and they have a hit IMO. This and the A-Class sedan will be a 1-2 punch to first time luxury brand buyers.

Post FL the A-class, CLA and GLA are more resolved vehicles. They are as good now as they should have been at launch. NVH refinement is still below where it should be but the ride is much improved with the adaptive dampers and the build quality just feels a bit more solid.
