DS 9 [Renders] 2018/2019 DS 9

The DS 9 is an executive car introduced in 2020 by DS. The company's first vehicle to be marketed to both Europe and Asia but assembled solely in China, the DS 9 serves as the flagship DS luxury-premium line, slotted above the DS 3, DS 4 and the DS 7 Crossback in size.
Interesting face to face with the successful Sonata's, Genesis, Kias's of higher range and some Germans, like all new Citroen, it is always a pleasure to see how new they bring (it has an air at 508 but it is clear that it is above)

I'd say the exterior is a mix of Audi and previous-generation Lexus design language with a few DS design elements. The interior capitalizes on the other DS models, yet feels more mature and less quirky. Inside out it's neither amazing nor indifferent.

It will make one of those cars that would be an excellent choice for a good friend, but not yourself. :D

Pretty much...Though you have to give them points for trying, to say the least...It seems to be a more sorted effort of design and technology, and is quite a bit more interesting compared to any Lexus/Infiniti etc model

Certainly. They did try and they did produce something kind of different, on the border of the stereotypical European design mold.

I guess it's FWD, right? Given the experience of living with a turbocharged Volvo for 15 years now, I'd never buy an FWD car in this segment again.

there's a sense of novelty to the design, but that wears off very quickly and there are other choices that I'd find more enticing in the long-run.

It becomes a "608" by its shape, or a kind of new CX

I would have liked them to do a modern (in this era) CX.
Quirky, but definitive Citroen. This just feels too anonymous and forgettable, frankly. More Chinese than Quirky French.
But here is some Nostalgia. :D

Problem is, the French have already launched more daring 5 door silhouettes and even taller vehicles in the midsize/luxury segments in the not so distant past (C6, Vel Satis, Avantime...) to set themselves apart from the German traditional sedan mold, and pretty much failed outside France. Once burnt, twice shy.

So now they'd rather secure at least marginal sales with a slightly different product offering while still maintaining the classical sedan philosophy, rather than all out crash and burn. Tables are shifting though and the SUV / high vehicle trend might finally make their alternative offerings relevant. However their credibility in the upper segments still has to be built first, which is why they keep going for the safer option for the time being, it's a vicious cycle.

I would have liked the same, but it is much more "608" than CX, .....following trends

I thought exactly the same, these times will be rare, some will experience as never before and many will be new and others nothing, but the 508 is very applauded and this is the same but longer, has potential, not personality but potential
Pardon my ignorance and going a bit off-topic, but how has DS as a (sub)brand fared thus far, sales-wise?

Mehh, very banal. After all their concepts, to come up with something so generic and ill proportionned is sad.
